I just completely rewrote the "Add a plant" page in the database. The duplicate checking is now MUCH stronger, and the whole experience should be much friendlier.

Additionally, starting now the duplicate checker is active for everyone. If you previously had a special case where the duplicate checker was disabled for you, that is no longer the case. What is new now is that if there is a duplicate match on the plant you're trying to add, it will give you a warning, telling you about the duplicate, but then it lets you go ahead and submit the new plant even though the potential duplicate does exist.

This option is available to everyone. So, moderators: keep an eye on the proposals. If they bypassed the duplicate checker, it will say so in the moderation queue under a heading that says, "Possible dup".

This is part 1 of my reworking of this part of the database. Part 2 will be where I update the "Edit plant name" area.

I usually specify what kind of daffodil under common names but when faced with entering same daffodil name (2 cultivars, same name) unable to so designate 2nd entry under common name. Cultivar is Yellow Sunset.

The plant you're trying to change this to already exists! You can access it at this page.

Are you adding a brand new plant, or editing an existing one?

New plant? That error message is not even in the new plant area. It only gives that error message in the edit a plant name page.

Could you tell me the exact steps to replicate this? What do you click on to get to the page where you are trying to add this?

I click on a cultivar in DB, note what division it's in then click on edit plant name, make an entry (according to division), enter it, approve it then go back to it and click details change, make entries, enter it, approve it. When there is another entry with the same name, I repeat process except when so editing 2nd entry it will not except new edited name, says already there. Often 2nd entry is of a different division.

Ok, that's not the new plant form, that's the edit plant form. Could you try again now?
