We've had snow off and on for a few days now, waiting for the storm to catch up to us later today. Stan got the heifers all moved and in except for 2 that are being a bit recalcitrant. Honestly, most cows would be house pets if they could, but then there are the few! My Grandpa Lee used to say about those individuals, "She a bunch quitter by nature and a troublemaker by choice."

I like your grandfather's "bunch quitter" label. We've had a few of those!

The storm headed your way is now moving out of our area - not in time for me to stay dry during early chores, however! The wet sock was entirely my fault though. While filling the chicken waterers, I managed to pour some straight into the top of my boot. I don't know what I was thinking: the hens are free range; there's water everywhere; why fill anything?

The SU opened the barn door at the other farm for the beasts to go in if they choose. It's a free stall barn, with mats.

The 7 in the pasture here at home can now go in the lean-to on the south side of the barn, if they so choose. And the 32 in the heifer barn all have free stalls. The SU put fresh limestone in all the stalls a couple of days ago so they should be good to go. Well, until they paw it all out and he has to put more in.

I got caught up on my bookwork yesterday...3 months worth. Yuck.

But now ready to relax and enjoy the winter holidays, right Anna? I love Thanksgiving, we celebrate with the entire extended family at a large venue. And I'm skipping Xmas this year (yahoo).
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

One of the reasons I am glad I don't like farm animals as I hate to go outside in the winter! Hilarious! In fact it is why I don't have a dog even. Each summer I think I really wish I had a dog. Could spend lots of time outside with a dog for company and we would both enjoy it. But come winter I am glad I don't have to get out and outside with a dog. Hilarious!

I hear ya...my sliding glass doors go out to the patio which is attached to the acre+ dog run. All I have to do is open the door and out the dogs go. However, Dixie can open the door so it's many trips up and down to close it behind her, but at least I get to stay dry and warm...or dry and cool in summer Whistling

That's why I like cats. No letting out, no walking..............your ultimate "low maintainance pet". I hate winter, I hate the cold, I totally dispise snow. The only redeeming quality about the cold weather here in the "tundra zone" is that it kills the bugs and flies. :>)

We have a milking job Sat. evening and it's our last scheduled job (for now) till into the new year. We have a week the last of Feb. and the 1st of March, then one for 4 days over the 3rd weekend in March. But, that can change with a phone call and we could have several. I hope none in January. It was bad enough keeping our own equipment running in the January cold, we sure aren't chomping at the bit to keep someone else's functioning.

I'm really going to start concentrated practicing on my hammer dulcimer; I ordered a stand for it because the TV tray with a book to prop the back side of the instrument up just isn't cutting it. LOL

Our dogs all live outside - so no letting in and out. The cats either live in the barn or the "courtyard" - so no maintenance either. The only critters that I let in and out are the chickens and an occasional rehabbing horse. But the stock outside does expect to be fed... I hate cold weather too which is why I live so far south. I feel betrayed when it gets cold here.

Frost! Everything is white, and there is the smell of dead grass. The grazing season is ebbing.

Well, last big chore in my garden is the mulching. I put the fall leaves all over the garden beds. Here is a picture of the slope at the side of the driveway where I put leaves around the daylily plants.
