Tiffany, these plants in your example are semi-connected.

When you type in a plant name, assuming what you type matches a database entry;
1) A link to that plant shows at the top of the MP photo page.
2) Click on the tag in the MP photo and the text you put in is displayed.
The "connectivity" ends there.
ex. Your MP photo, Select Ipomoea batatas 'Pink Frost'. Check the DB entry for Sweet Potato Vine (Ipomoea batatas 'Pink Frost'), no MP photo.

Input a DB url or Plant ID#:
1) A link to that plant shows at the top of the MP photo page.
2) Click on the tag in the MP photo and a condensed version of the DB entry, complete with photo and data (if they exist), is displayed.
3) Your MP photo is also placed on the DB page. This is very helpful for members researching a plant.
ex. Your MP photo, Select Syngonium podophyllum. Check the DB entry for Arrowhead Plant (Syngonium podophyllum), there's your image!

I'm seeing the sunset/full moon pic under the regular pics on every plant listed at the top of it. Is that different from when you looked before, Evan?

I suspect the one connected plant in this pic was typed?
http://garden.org/apps/sets/vi...
Another tag in the pic says Rose 'Queen Elizabeth'

Can anyone spot the pattern/secret?

I believe so.

Tiffany, I just edited an MP photo of mine typing[/u[ in the name [u]Iris ensata 'Silverband'. The full linkage worked so your earlier questions and my response no longer apply.

@dave, have you gifted us?? Green Grin!

In my test typing in;
Silverband or Iris Silverband did not work.
Iris ensata Silverband and Iris ensata 'Silverband' both worked.

P.S. Sweet!!

I did and forgot to mention it. Smiling I am testing a new algorithm that tries to match up a plant by the text name, when you create the tag. What it does is behind the scenes it does a quick plant search based on what you typed. If it finds only one match, then it replaces your text with the pid of that plant.

But, if there is more than one match then it will not do anything. That's why if you just type "Rose" it won't match anything since there are thousands of matches under that. But if you search for "Iris ensata 'Silverband'" then there is only one match and it works.

I think this'll help a great deal. Thumbs up

BTW, can we delete the moon photo now?

Thanks Dave. The change should take care of much of the tag input.

dave said:But, if there is more than one match then it will not do anything.

That explains why Iris Silverband didn't work as there is an Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Silverband Falls') in our DB as well.

Definitely time for this to go. I'll take care of it. Tiffany, for further testing one of your existing MP photos should do.

To Clarify a bit, typing in Iris Silverband did not work because it is not an exact match for only one plant entry in our DB? @Zuzu, could you test this with one of the Rosa names that occur in more than one entry?

Whenever you're finished with the curiosity of the moon pic, delete it. Thanks for the indulgence of allowing it to exist for a couple days to ask questions!

And a huge Thank You, Dave!!

You're welcome, Tiffany. Smiling

That's right. It has to match exactly one (not more or less) in order to match. I might adjust that.

The system is using the exact same search engine as this one:

http://garden.org/plants/searc...

So you can search for stuff there and see how it matches. Your search terms for Iris Silverband indeed pulls up two results:

There are five Queen Elizabeth roses in our database: the one Tiffany probably wants, a climbing Queen Elizabeth, and sports that are white, crimson, and yellow. That's why it's always better to type in the plant ID number rather than typing in the name of the plant.

TY, Zuzu but the rose pic isn't mine. I wouldn't dream of getting involved with rose names! Oh my. The ones I like came before those I think.

Added a few more MP pics & this is awesome.
Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Would it be troubling for plants with cultivar entries to default to the species if one isn't typed? For example, Tradescantia zebrina is in about any MP pic I might upload. This would make connectivity about as automated as I can imagine it could be.

Thanks!
