Starting now, it actually shows you the most thumbed images from among the most recently uploaded photos. The list should change frequently as thumbs as given.
This way, when a visitor hits the front page, they will see the more interesting photos, rather than just the new ones.
This new system may be open to a positive feedback loop type of problem, though, Dave? In other words, once an image gets a few thumbs up it stays on the front page longer than it otherwise would have, allowing it to be seen by more people and garner more thumbs, thus staying on the front page longer....... and around the cycle goes. Meanwhile, other images are never displayed on the front page and don't get seen unless members specifically look for them or see them next to the forum home pages (if the plant is popular enough to have its own forum).
This seems to be what has happened so far. A couple hundred images have been added to the database over the past day or so, but I believe the front page has pretty much displayed the same handful of sempervivum and daylily images the whole time, which is fine. But, it seems likely there will be a real bias in favor of the plants with the most fans here, sempervivums, daylilies, irises, roses, and probably just a few others?
