Never use oil to polish plant leaves. It clogs leaf pores and interferes with their functioning. Use milk instead. It’s inexpensive and provides a good shine once it dries.
Our cats have never been attracted to the milk-polished leaves. I think it's because the layer of milk remaining on the leaves is so thin. The milk dries quickly , and once it's dry, there's no smell at all, so neither cats nor bugs would be interested.
