The articles will be published the first week in February, so anytime between now and the middle of January would be ideal.

Okay, here's what I have so far. Let me know if I've left anyone out.

Skiekitty -- Blue Rose
Chelle -- Planting Dormant Bare-Root Roses
Joannabanana -- Growing roses in containers
Joannabanana -- Epsom Salts
Calsurf73 -- Breaking Rules
Porkpal -- Austin Roses
Newyorkrita -- Spraying and fertilizing routine
Newyorkrita -- Jumble of Color
Newyorkrita -- Roses and Lilies
Calif_Sue -- ?
Zuzu -- Maximizing Vase Life of Roses
Paul -- ?
CindiKS -- ?

Sue and I need topics, and we need two or three more article writers.

Here's a list of the other people who wrote articles for Roses Week in February 2013: @Betja, @dorab, @Mike, @Paul2032, and @Cottage_Rose. Would you please consider doing this again for February 2014? It would be great to have articles on growing roses from seeds, growing roses from cuttings, shade-tolerant roses, humidity-tolerant roses, and lots of other topics.

How about an article describing the different characteristics of the various classes of roses, or the history of one or more types of rose?

I think Mike's article last February pretty much covered rose history and the different classes, Porkpal.

Maybe I'll do something like a rose glossary, explaining all of the common terms used by rose gardeners.

Don't forget the spontaneous ones, Zuzu. You know, the terms you use when that Godzilla-sized thorn just ripped up your forearm? Big Grin

I don't know about you, Debra, but the ones I use aren't fit for publication. Hilarious!

Can we repost articles like Mike's as they contain so much general background information?

We won't repost anything yet. Maybe in a few years when everyone's sick and tired of writing new articles. Smiling His article's readily available to anyone who searches for roses on the Ideas home page, and we can always provide a link to the article when people in the forum ask questions that are answered in his article.

Zuzu ...

I know it sounds boring, but how about writing the article about planting bands and body bag roses. That's what most people will be buying and they really don't understand that for a band, you have to grow it up so that it has a decent root mass before planting.

Body bags ... they don't know that the roots have been butchered. Then when the rose dies, they think they can't grow roses.

I don't know if you have had an article about growing roses in containers in the past, but that's another possible topic.

btw ... Kim gave me permission to use the information he posted about rejuvenating roses in that thread. If I use a lot of his material, can we list the article as co-authors ?

Smiles,
Lyn

Hurray! I will switch. No Gertrude Jekyll article .. I will do one on growing roses in containers. I do at least a dozen roses in containers every year, including minies. Lots of photos and tips

Articles about planting demand illustration, and I don't have the right photos.

As for co-authorship, that came up once before and I learned that our system won't handle co-authored articles. You can always give Kim credit for co-authoring in the body of the article.

Well, I went to start some work on Rose week article but before that I printed out the schedule of plants weeks I noticed that cold weather veggie crops week was before roses and and herbs week was right after roses week so I worked on my articles for those instead. Had to completely write my herbs one as I just started it and on cold weather crops one, I had lots of polish to do. But both are done and sent off to Trish now. I hope she likes them and finds them useful.

I was really surprised when I got a great idea to write for herbs week as I never thought of herbs as somethings I could write anything useful for until now.

So I don;t know if I have any creativity left right now to work on my roses article.

Good for you, Rita! The herbs and veggies articles will be highly appreciated. Now you should relax for three or four weeks and then write your rose article. It doesn't have to be very long. People will be interested in your schedule because climate and other growing conditions will always make organic practices problematic for some gardeners.

Herbs are not my thing. In fact I barely grow any herbs. But I just got a bolt of inspiration when I printed out that plants weeks schedules. The idea just came out of the blue for something I do grow.

And I knew I had better get that cold weather crops week article polished off and done. It joins an article I sent off months ago that I think would be perfect for that week. So we will see what Trish thinks.

What surprises me is that unlike you and Sue that are actively working on Roses week nothing seems to be going on for those other early plants weeks. Trish of course is looking for articles as she mentions that on the thread for plants weeks but nothing else. Don't see moderators for appropriate forums drumming up interest. It all seems to fall on Trish in that case.

Last year we had months of forum moderator reminders for daylily week articles. It made it very successful. And when Trish asked for ideas for plants weeks, lots of topics came up. It would be great if people could get their thinking caps on and write articles for the subjects they wanted and were interested in.

I will start to work on my roses week article as I know I will have to edit and add and polish until I get what I want.
