Though I am in zone 8a, it is no different here in NE Mississippi than much of Texas. I have lost dozens of aleo vera, jade, schifflera, rubber trees, and a huge, old Peace Lily, one that preduces a couple of dozen "flowers" each spring/summer. I just did not have room in my GH's for all of them, so they were left outside, under my large, oak trees. They survived the previous two winters (which were fairly mild) but are now all frozen and dead. Oh well, life's not always fair. I guess the positive thing is that I will now have more room for plants under those oaks and I won't have quite so many plants to fertilize in the spring. Whistling

Well, our expected cold front went somewhere else. Hurray! Instead, we're going to be pushing 80 this weekend, and then cooling off into the 60s next week, with the lows wayyyy above freezing. That's perfectly fine with me! Thumbs up

We're in the high 70s, but the rain is supposed to come tomorrow with cooler temps.

I taped up the greenhouse in prep for the morning thunderstorms that @Bubbles is sending us. I am having trouble with leakage at the seams. I am so glad next year at this time, god willing,I will have a new real greenhouse and no worries like this.

I keep waiting for that cold front to get way down here to Corpus Christi, but it's 72 degrees this morning and just doesn't feel like winter. Moved here a couple of years ago and noticed that whenever the temps drop into the 60's, hats and coats are quickly donned, but most people stay indoors. On the upside, I still have tomatoes in my garden!

Oh, how nice to have tomatoes. Mine are long, long gone. We are under a severe thunderstorm/tornado watch, and the worst of the weather looks to get here late afternoon and then deep into the evening. We are a balmy 72 F with 100% relative humidity and winds 10-20 mph from the south. By Monday morning we will be back into the 20's and will have lows in the 20's for three nights before warming up a bit. Those three nights of 20's will make a total of 15 nights with 20 degree temperatures, just unheard of in the deep south, this early.

Welcome rositoes! I envy your tomatoes!

It rained all night and drizzled today until about noon. The sun came out and we'll have sun and 70s through Christmas. I think our rain has made it to Houston by now. Looks like the coast will have storms all the way through MS and AL and beyond. Hate to see bad weather when families are traveling. Our neighborhood is like a ghost town. Lots of folks going to visit family. We took a family of seven at 5AM to the airport yesterday to catch flight to Hawaii. Had to take our car and truck to fit all their luggage and people!

We live off Loop 360 and it's wall to wall cars as far as the eye can see both ways. Merry Christmas! It's nearly impossible to get downtown because there's shopping on both ends of the loop, and downtown. Plus, the Trail of Lights in Zilker Park is going on and all the arteries feeding into the park are backed up starting about 6 PM. We're going to venture out to dinner, but somewhere locally.

The hoops are holding up to the wind and cool. We've only used the heaters a few nights. DH had to meet the roofers at the lake yesterday. The roof on the boathouse was damaged in a storm not long ago. This was their first chance to replace it. DH said the grass was brown and all the trees were bare. It gets a lot colder there in winter. Our grass is still green here. I have hibiscus and a few other things blooming. We'll get our cold freeze in January.

Seems the rains started here in the Houston area around 3 am. When I got home from work at 6:30 amI found my rain gauge had tipped over. So I righted it. It stormed, thundered, and the wind blew fiercely. Or so I'm told. I slept right through it. But the gauge showed 1-1/2". It was a good soak. The greenhouse stood strong. Either we didn't get the winds on that side of the garage or I am one darn good greenhouse/lean-to builder! Rolling on the floor laughing

I'm sure the GH stood because of your expert construction ability! The weather guys had to change their forecast last night. It's going to be cold here the next few days! Then we'll send it down to you!

Wow! That was quick, @Bubbles Sandi! Thank you! Saw the sunshine you sent today as it broke right through those clouds. So I got up on the roof and blew off the leaves. There were tons of leaves! I was only able to rake up about a 1/3 of it off the ground before it got dark. Can you please send it a little earlier next time?

I'll do my best! I noticed you were on the roof blowing leaves. Maybe you should have asked me to send the wind to blow the leaves off the roof! The ER is a terrible place to spend Christmas.

I was cleaning the leaves off for Santa. I'd hate to know his sleigh slipped off my roof cuz of my leaves. I have Homeowners Insurance though. I'm sure he could see that I was being a very good girl by doing that for him!

My hoop heaters tripped the circuit breaker this morning. Someone put all four heaters onto two ext. cords and plugged em in to one GFI outlet. Same one checked the breaker box and determined it was a bad breaker. We called the company that installed all our new lights during their Xmas party this morning. The young man that was the foreman on our job volunteered to come over...even though he was on his way out of town. He quickly determined that "some one" who checked the breaker box checked the wrong one (a dead one). The correct one was just tripped. "Someone" had not properly marked the circuits!
The electrician said he came because he remembered I had baked cookies for them and made lunch for them. Was a nice early Christmas present. Now to get "someone" to properly mark the circuits!
