Both my big 'shade' plants in the pool cage are in bloom today. Yellow is 'Charles Grimaldi' and the pink is a NoID. It's flowers start out creamy white, and the pink suffuses quickly to the edges but the center stays white. In the daytime the flowers furl up a bit, but at night they open wide and look like cartoon flowers.

I need to find a camera with a flash to get a good picture of them when they are wide open. Would love to know its name.

Great pics! We're just about to hit 32° so I guess winter's officially here. I have a few blooming in the hoop house along the fence, but no flushes like yours.

This may be the last good flush I see this year, too Sandi. I need to prune these two big plants so that my orchids will get more sun through the winter and it may not be warm enough for them to grow a lot more leaves. I have had flowers in December, but that's just good luck and weather. We haven't yet gone below 50, but I'm sure it's coming.

I'm still putting things away. It's raining now and cold, so I'm staying inside.

Got out last evening with my DH's camera for the cartoon flowers on the big pink NoID.

Spindly old 'Monster White' surprised me with a few blooms, once I dragged them out of the jungle. They will be covered with a blankie tonight.

Back from a week's vacation, and surprise! Charles Grimaldi put on some more flowers for our return.

Such beautiful blooms. You're so fortunate to have good weather this late into the year.

All of my plants have been in the basement for weeks, and have shed their leaves, except for Angel's Sunflower, that's now forming a bud.

We've got a record run of good weather going down here, you're so right! Only one night has gone below 50 since March!

Wouldn't you know, the forecast calls for Xmas week to be cold, though. I have my kids and spouses coming to visit then . . . Rolling my eyes.

Came home to that wonderful scent last night - A bonus flush of bloom on my NOID pink, just in time for the arrival of my kids for the holidays! What a nice little blessing. Cheers everyone! Big Grin

Despite a couple of near-freezing nights the last couple of weeks, my big brugs continue to pump out buds! This is a surprise, because in previous years when it has gotten this cold they have all stopped blooming and sulked for a couple of months. They are just too darned tall now to cover effectively, so are left unprotected.

Just idle speculation here, but I have been supplementing their diet all last summer and fall with both Epsom salts and a new product that was recommended for my orchids called Pro-Tekt, The Silicon Solution. Since these two big brugs live in the pool cage and shade the orchids, they have been misted with the orchid stuff, incl. very dilute fert and the silicon supplement for several months. From what I've read, this stuff helps to strengthen the cell walls in the leaves. IF this is true, it might explain why these two big characters have continued to bloom this year, maybe?? Shrug! Anybody else tried this product?

Two other big plants out in the garden look fine, but are not blooming or showing signs of buds. They've both been covered on the cold nights, but did not get any of the silicon spray.

You know NOIDs get a bad wrap. They are just as pretty as any others. I like the named ones but I like the NOIDs too.

Overwhelming perfume out in the pool cage tonight, I counted a dozen blooms open on the big pink NoID.

Charles Grimaldi has a ton of buds coming along, but we're having another cold snap Wednesday and Thursday. Hope they make it.
