Sue and Julia are right, Jo Ann. Your photos are wonderful and the iris combo's are terrific. They really do belong on the Color Echoes thread.

I see what you mean, Sue, with the Bidens and Arctotis. We had to delete the gaura. It just got much too wild and rangey looking for the bluestone garden.

That gaura is a more compact version. I always have trouble finding it in my inventory list since botanists have recently reclassified and named this species Oenothera lindheimeri.
Gaura (Oenothera lindheimeri 'Rosy Jane').
I will always call it gaura (and try to remember to spell it right too) Smiling

Do you tend to spell it gu instead of gau, Sue? I do that much too often.

What a mess I made!

The baby's breath gets way too huge, the yarrow is perfect but hidden by the baby's breath and then the allium grew much taller than expected. Time for a do-over in spring.

Nice colors though. Are you just going to move them around so the shorter is in front?

Heaven knows what I'll do. Probably I'll move the baby's breath. For eons I heard they couldn't be moved but we grew many and some blocked paths so I moved them and they survived and did well. Then I'll be left with the yarrow (yellow and terracotta) that do match the roses Julia Child and Tropicana, but they each may need shifting to the left and right. Then I'll have to move the allium to some Japanese irises that bloom in early July. The garden is never static.

In my defense I got these from a neighbor's yard with no clue what color. But I forgot to mark them! So I'll be stuck with this next year too!

Jennifer - I like those colors together so it's just adding something that will make it all come together.

It makes the winter tolerable when I get to work with photos, plants and color.

That is a beautiful combo. The colors really set of the evergreen. What is that with the coleus in the lower right corner? Maybe a dahlia?

That is a nameless Home Depot dahlia with a few coleuses. This is the same dahlia, and the photo I wanted to find earlier. It begins blooming as a great dark wine.

I do go looking but try very hard not to buy anything. By late January my good intentions are just memories.

OOOH! I used to have a dahlia like that! But it reverted to solid red.
