Snow with rain and sleet is predicted. The night time lows this week will drop below freezing. Am I really still in South Texas?? Everyone in the greenhouse is snug and warm with the heater on. I got the big ficuses and palms bungee'd up and safe in the confines of the garage. All the stuff in the garage is under florescent lights. They have been watered to help insulate from the cold. And whenever it stops raining, I will cover some of the most tender tropicals I have in the ground. It is currently 41º with the wind chill making it feel like 31º. IDK who hates it more, me or the plants?? I love my plants so much. I hate this time of year and the worry it causes me at the chance of losing a single one. I think we need to move, plants and all to Florida.

It's cold here too. There were snow flurries at the lake. I still have that stray kitten to worry about. It's supposed to be freezing tonight. I put a box with bedding in the bottom of the little cabinet on our patio under the deck. Cracked the door a bit. Hope it keeps him warm enough. He's still a little wild, so I don't trust him to be around the heaters in the hoop. Might burn the house down.

The brugmansias are blooming beautifully now that it's about to freeze. I picked about a dozen mandarin oranges off a little tree I bought at Costco earlier this year. They were really sweet.

I wonder what I left outside to freeze? I couldn't get home in time to get the heaters set up in the big hoop tonight. I hope the ground is warm enough to keep everything in there from too much damage. Have heat on in the patio one.

Actually Cheryl you are in Southeast Texas, with the emphasis on the East. It is cold, and wet here. I only have about 6 plants I want to bring in and haven't done it yet. We haven't gotten as low as they have been predicting, so I'll wait until later today to see if I need to bring anything in.

Sandi, I have blooms on my brugs, too! And so does my neighbor. They are white. I doubt they will have a chance to turn pink. The white is kinda nice to look at in the cold. Poor tree. I think it's gonna freeze back this year.

Jay, I have heard arguments that we are not considered "Southeast Texas" because we are not part of the Golden Triangle and pretty much west of the Trinity River. Then again, we aren't really south either. I guess we're just "Houston".

Just mulch the roots and the brug should come back. We didn't quite freeze here. Priority is getting the heaters set up in the big hoop. At least the rain stopped and the sun's out!

We got down to 32º for a few hours last night. My front yard brug has frozen back and come back to us many times in the 10 years we've had it. It is always prettier-bushier and taller when we have a mild winter as it gets to continue growing. No doubt, it will return as it does each and every year.

We placed the little heaters in the big hoop this afternoon. We should get below freezing tonight. We'll warm each day until we hit 70° early next week. I never put summer clothes away anymore. Crazy weather, but I like it a little warmer. I just don't care for wet winter drear.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Are you having company? We're going to our daughter's (about 3 miles away)....only because the A&M game is on Saturday this year, instead of Thanksgiving, so they'll be in town. SIL bleeds maroon, as does his five siblings! I'm still cooking like a fiend, though.

I'm glad you got your babies a heater. Gonna be a cold one tonight. Freeze Warnings are out for our area and the Galveston coast. I turned the greenhouse heater up a notch. This seems more like Christmas than Thanksgiving. I just finished up a giant banana pudding to help GF feed 20 people tomorrow. I will roast a pan of fresh veggies tomorrow morning, keeping them warm with Sterno. There will be a pile! I kinda got excited and went crazy at HEB---DD wants to be an Aggie. She will make it there one day! Then we will get involved, I'm sure of it. Happy Thanksgiving, Sandi, to you and yours. We have a lot to be thankful this year! DH walked into the house with a new brace today. Hurray!

That's just the best news!!! I know you're both tickled that he could walk with his new brace. And yes, we all have a lot to be thankful for this year.
You tell your DD that if our DD hadn't gotten a full scholarship elsewhere, we would have wanted her to go to A&M.

Through the game room door to the hoop on the patio. Everything is warm and happy after a chilly night. Notice the Priority box on the concrete? Remember, if it fits, its ships. We're being held hostage by this (used to be tiny) stray...have to find him/her a home soon.
