Help! I see my database proposal was approved for adding a synonym for Crassula ovata but denied for adding the same exact synonym to C. perfoliata var. minor. saying you can't add the same species name as a synonym to two entries. Is that an ATP programmed system thing or do you mean it just isn't correct having the same synonym for the two different plants? Is obliqua a legitimate species?

The Catalogue of Life shows Crassula obliqua is a synonym for both C. ovata and C. perfoliata var. minor :

So, the synonym can't be added at this entry? Propeller Plant (Crassula perfoliata var. falcata) because it's already at the entry for Jade Plant (Crassula ovata)

And, I doubt Obliqua is a correct cultivar name: so it could probably be deleted.

I'm far from being a plant expert so please forgive me if I'm in error here. I'm totally myself the more I read so that's it for now ...

That's interesting Lin. And the two plants are definitely different, but have the same synonym name.

It's a case of two different botanists providing conflicting information. The COL lists both, but in our database we don't want duplicate species entries, so we have to resolve the conflict by listing it as a synonym for only one of the plants. In time, the two botanists may agree on one option, and then we'll either change our data or leave it unchanged, depending on the final decision.

The cultivar entry probably is an invalid name, so it should be deleted from the database. Growers sometimes treat a synonym as a cultivar name because the synonym has characteristics that appear to be distinct from the accepted species. This seems to be one of those cases. I'm going to delete the entry. No harm, I'm sure, because no one has added any photos or information to the entry.
