No nuns here but some of my friends had stories. I had dreams of sempervivum last night, they were neon colors and 2 feet wide. I'm was thinking about the spring flush of color and looking at the database pictures after dinner.
Love Neon Peter!! Julia, that's when I knew I was hooked on semps...when I'd start dreaming about them, and even in my dreams, totally oohing and awing over them...kindof strange! I wondered if I needed semp therapy! but then I'd come on here and look at the database photos, and felt i was just responding "normally" to the stimuli!
valleylynn said: Boy are the natives getting restless. Sempervivum dreams, motel/hotel reservations, tours, Clinic. Uh oh, I feel the excitement building.
I'm serious...I've got accommodations, cocktail plans with Oregonians, dinner plans with Washingtonians and breakfast plans with a gracious septuagenarian...
What day is the clinic again when we see what's-his-name?...
May 3rd for the Clinic with Kevin . I can't wait. I might have to go check things out next month.
Wow Bev, you know someone that old? Oh, silly me, I'm the septuagenarian, I keep forgetting. In my mind I am in my second childhood, about 9 or 10 now.
Yeah I've not checked the list in a few days but it's definitely that first Saturday in May.
There are several hotels that are easy access to the I-5. If you get off at the Market Street Exit there are a bunch and all are quite good. If you are flying in the Red Lion has a shuttle service from PDX. There are also several on Commercial Blvd SE that are off the Kuebler Blvd. exit. These are just a couple miles from my house.
Lynn, my mother often said "Kevin you act as though you're 12". GUILTY AS CHARGED! Actually all the things that are passions for me now, the breeding and the music, were things I were doing at 12!
Hope they have a nice simple chicken dish. I'm not a gourmet, loved the ginger dressing last time but I was on fire the whole way home. I'm going with dessert this time rather than salad.
Dessert there is definitely a treat. Too bad Marionberries are not in season as they make this marvelous crisp with them and peaches mixed. Served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream there isn't much better. Of course the tiramisu and the creme brulee are nothing to sneeze at either. The chicken saltimbocco is one of my favorites there along with the fisherman's stew. Hmm, why am I hungry?
Of course I'm making a pot of clam chowder today. You can take a boy out of MA but you can't take MA out of the boy!!
By the way I was out looking yesterday and the cold did some damage to certain cultivars. the heuffeliis all look good but some of the semps are really crisped. Of course we had a wet October that was mild and then BOOM right into winter. The plants (or the gardener) weren't ready for that. Have you noticed that on some of yours too Lynn? 'Tarita' was one of the most affected. Too bad as i was going to use it as a parent. Of course 19 years out of 20 this wouldn't be a problem. There were a couple seedlings that just turned BLACK and died. Odd too as this would be ~1 out of 50 that would do this. in some crosses, none at all.
Years ago I tried to grow 'Commander Hay' in MA and it did the same thing there. It was the only semp I ever lost to winter. Even there I would allow the oak leaves to cover the semp beds and of course they had several feet of snow above that for protection too.
