I clicked on the database Havana Snakeroot (Ageratina havanensis) and found it's hardy to 7b. It would have to be grown as an annual for me in zone 6a in northern KY, but blooming that late, I'd probably wouldn't grow it.

But, for those who have a warmer zone, what a great plant to grow! Thumbs up

Thanks for sharing this tip! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

I had not heard of this plant, probably because it would not be hardy here.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
Perhaps it has hardier relatives? I'll need to look for them.

I have only recently gotten interested in shrubs so my knowledge of them is very limited. I'm sure that's why I have never heard of it, or if I did, it flew right over my head. I will be doing some research now to find out where I can get one. I think it would work really well for me down here in the south.

Living in zone 6b, this shrub might make it here, but I have never seen it before that I can remember. What a great addition to the late fall garden that would be! It certainly is a beauty!

Arlene, go to the plant in the database. On the left hand side scroll down to where you see a white rectangular box with a header of "Adding Actions", scroll down & you will see in bold print "Plant list", directly under that is a blue box which says "add this plant to your list" click on that & viola'! That's a beauty, Jo. I have Ageratina altissima and I do enjoy it so much. In the fall, the white flowers stand out at the edge of the woods behind us.
I garden for the pollinators.

What a lovely specimen. Now to find one for my yard. I even have the perfect spot, right in front of the house, nestled next to the red turks cap hibiscus. What a show that would be in the Winter.

I found a nursery in Texas but they don't ship plants! He suggested if I knew someone at Ft. Bragg, but I don't. DS will be flying into Texas overnight, but not close enough! too far for a nursery run, even though I am open to some long distance runs, it won't be happening this time. Thumbs down

O.K. Everybody, the seeds are not mature yet, but if any of you would like to get some, please treemail me and I will send you my address so you can send me a self stamped self addressed envelope, and I will send you seeds as soon as they ripen, which should be a week or two.

I am glad to see that this shrub has stirred a lot of excitement, it is amazing and should be used more.
Hopefully now if you all get the seeds it will be more widespread for the benefit of pollinators, and the enjoyment of the people who watch them and appreciate them.

The two shrubs I showed are at a butterfly garden that I started seven years ago. I have some at home too but they are not as beautiful as the ones pictured, I guess the conditions are just right there,

Thank you all for the interest, the acorns and the thumbs up, it has been a lot of fun.

Josephine.

Good Luck!

I have a friend in Austin, which is fairly close, but not the kind of friend who would run up there and get one for me, and then ship it to me. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Jo, I'd like to share some seeds with my semi-local native nursery. They don't currently carry it, but it would be a great addition to their stock. Would it bother you if I did that?
