Mike: I place plastic spoons where I want or can use more bulbs.I do this in spring so I dont plant over exhisting bulbs.
The plastic spoon marking system was a source of mockery from my kids until DD realized she dug into a lily .

To do a screen shot, get what you want on the screen, type the "prt scrn" button. Then open paint, paste, crop if desired & save. Then it's a pic file that can be uploaded. Your chart sounds prettier to look at!

Here's the sheet of bloom colors:
Thumb of 2013-12-03/purpleinopp/d93238

The one showing bloom times (as well as dates attached where there's a red triangle to click in the corner, maybe a cultivar name.) I tried marrying the two originally but the colors I'd select, I'd have to find again later, so it was too cumbersome. I decided to use the colors for other things, especially handy after moving from OH to AL, to compare how same stuff behaves differently in different climates.

I've been messing with this file for about 15 years, when I discovered spreadsheets, so there's a strange mix of common/correct botanical names, and some of the stuff indicated as not hardy is fine in the ground where I live now. Most of the stuff on both lists, I no longer have, concentrating more on shrubs & nectar-producing plants, way too many potted plants that aren't hardy.

I was just looking at Rosy Dawn on Facebook and they announced their 2014 catalog was open and ordering function was working.
Guess I'll start my combos.

I also like to use winter to organize pictures and update files. I also do a lot of shopping in winter. I have more time and I like to look everything up, I like researching plants. Also when I gather all my information I can add it to the database and in spring all I have to do is take pictures, no surprises like, 'NOT FOUND'. From the time I purchase or win a plant on LA, I will check the database and add it to my list. This is how I am keeping track of my plants, it is free and it is easy. Also in most cases there is already a picture that I can drool over till mine blooms. Drooling
Also you can add your own categories and make them public or private. The list can be used for selling or trading plants, you can add notes or comments. I like to put who I purchased from or traded with.

Re screen shots - that is what always throws me off - I don't have Paint (or if I do, I have no idea where it is). I do have PaintShop which I find cumbersome, but did copy into there and cropped, but now I can't find it, nor do I really know how to copy that file into this entry. All of this is neither intuitive nor easy for me (too many steps). As often as you folks do this, I'm guessing I am making it more complicated than it needs to be. I'll poke around and see if I can figure this out somehow.

Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only one making databases! I make maps of my garden beds too and keep the old ones handy in case something unexpected pops up I can go back and look at what I had planted in there before.

Thank you Anne, I have bookmarked that page. I usually just send random files to my brother to 'fix' for me - he is a graphic guy and likes to muck around with stuff like this. It just frustrates the bejezus out of me and makes me want to throw my mouse out the window. BUT, I should learn to at least do a simple screen print, and have seen lots of other very cool graphics done by others. ...Winter project...

Deb, it sounds like you've done it and it's now a file in some folder on your computer. If you open the file again in the paint/photo program, see if there's an option in the file menu to 'save as.' That should pop up the little save window which will show you where the file is on your computer (then you can click cancel.) If you have a newer version of Windows, it's probably in the documents folder, or 'my pictures.' When you click "upload an image" on here, you just need to find the right folder to the left, then choose the file on the right. At the top of the window should be an icon or menu to change the files into pics (icons) if you're having trouble knowing which file it is. If not, sorting by date should help you know, it's the newest one. Your pic program will probably put any new screenshot files you make in the same folder, so once you find it, you'll know where to look in the future. If this doesn't help, you're welcome to send me a private & I'd be happy to see if we can figure it out together, though my time on the computer today is ending soon. I'd see it in the morning. I thought about just sending this to you in a private but others might be stuck in the same way too, so decided to share here in case of that.
