Another update; Crest just will not stop growing. Can't wait till it goes outside.

Thumb of 2014-03-30/Stush2019/190cb2

also on some seedling of Huernia and Stapleia, I got eighter a double header or a crest forming. Hard to take pictures of them but I'll try.

Update; Finally seperated the stem growing the crest. It has two tiny white roots already at it's tip. Dusted with rootone and planted in it's own pot. I love the red coloring the sun put in it once placed outside for the summer.

Hetty,
I don't know the real name. Purchased for Hirts Gardens a while ago. It's not Owl's Eye Cactus Plant -Huernia pillansii as stated. It seems to be H. penzigii. And crested is something new to me. Don't know if anyone else has one. Can't wait for it to bloom. Due to the crest, the flowers my be different as well.

Surprisingly the main plant is producing more crest. I see at least 3 more forming. Some arms has twin sprouts also that is rare. I am really excited by this plant. Hope nothings bad happens to it. I know I will never see another one like it.

Sad news. My Huernia is not so special. Seems that this exact varity of huernia is noted for cresting. On Dave's Garden site. Palmbob shows his that won 2007 LA cactus & Suc. awards. Very simular to mine. Or what mine might look like in a year or so. Their's even flower with the dark red flowers also like mine. Link below;
Controversy as to what's it's proper name is. Maybe huernia schnideriana because of it's dark red flower. Needs more looking into.

I just purchased this Asclepiad some 3 months ago and it rewards me with a bloom. That rarely happens to me. Got to share it. This is a Duvalia sulcata ssp. Seminude. Very close to Huernias and Stapelias. And it has no smell that I can detect. Hurray!

Tee,
Sadly to say, about a inch. but it has no smell that I can tell. Lasted 3 days. And some Duvalia has sweet smells. Same as some Obea. Both are Huernia cousins. Now if only we can breed this into the big ones.

Don't feel bad. I haven't seen one on mine and it's getting to be a large plant. I got friends who have Huernia zebrina that's only two small stems and it started blooming.

New update; My Stapelia hirsuta are blooming their heads off. And this time I have flies. That means seeds should come. They even laid their eggs on the flowers. I have several extras due to stems breaking off and rooting them.

I even added my Huernia somalica Hybrids next to it to hopefully get some flies to pollinate it.

It has the largest flowers for a Huernia. Just over 1 inch across.

Hi Stush,
Any crested plant is to be enjoyed. I love and collect them.
And when one crests in front of you it is exciting.
Just wish I could figure a way to make plants crest.
I have found that crested plants rarely bloom.
Is that true for the rest of you?

I want to share a first bloom on a noid cutting I have been growing for years.
These three inch flowers are the biggest Huernia I have ever seen.
