Wow, you guys are killing me. How beautiful. I have only one. H. fasciata, 'Zebra Plant'. I saw a var. zebra plant that was to die for. I have way too many plants and should have never looked here. I just got into Aloe and it's hybrids and bought 50 seeds to start from. Along with Aloe Polly seeds. So far, 3 out of 10 and reseeded with 50 seeds to see how many of them germinate. Was told it could take 8 months to germinate. Mine took 5 days. Also got a tray full of 'Hechtia Mix' seeds with a tray full of 'Dyckia Hybrid Mix'. Also tray of Stapelia Mix and tray of Huernia Mix. It will take 3 years before the Stapelia and Huernia go up for trades and unknow about the Aloes and Hechtia plants. Some thing comes to mind about counting chickens before your eggs hatch.

And I'd bet you can't have just one!

I went and took some photos in the greenhouse today for this thread. The photos aren't that great and the Haworthias have been neglected this summer so please don't turn me into to the plant police...

This is my oldest Haworthia ~ fasciata

The one on the left has lost its' tag but I believe it is H. tortusosa.

And a favorite H. limifolia aka fairy washboard

This one is variegated. I'll try to remember to get its' name tomorrow. A chilly trip to the greenhouse tells me it is H. fasciata variegate. Hope it multiplies as much as the regular H. fasciata does.

Thank you to both of you.

I agree Greg, I really like the trailing Haworthias. That last one should be more orderly on the growth almost like a spiral but it has changed. More chaotic like things have been around here. Blinking

Pardon my absence!
Great stuff pod!
Thanks for that link!
The links contained on that page are excellent!

Don't fret about growin your haws hard! I'm sure you know They can take it!
It's part of the allure!

Now I think I have enough contributors to spring my trap!

This thread was designed not to show off my haws, but rather to flush out growers that might trade me come spring!
My plant budget just won't allow more haws, and there are rarely any locally offered, just on the c&s racks at the bbs, you know the ones!
I call it death row!
When I go to lowes I proudly announce the wife, " I'm gunna see if the govna' can issue any pardons today" it usually garners a stink eye or 2...😈
Please tree mail me for trades, I'm ALWAYS actively looking for more new plants, and love to trade!

So anyone interested in a swap, treemial me!

If you don't, expect one from me!😋

I'm more than a fair trader, and perfectly happy and adept at rooting the smallest of pups!
I can even settle for healthy leaves to root!
Or in the case of the retuse lens type haws, I've even forced a pup or 2 from their succulent roots, but it's not easy if the roots been removed from its pot!

Thanks for the comments Mr. Swayback...

After reading this thread, I'm inspired to add a sampling of excess Haworthias to my dry succulent bed and overwinter them outdoors to see just how hardy they will be. I shall have to do so early in summer so the roots will be established before the first freeze. I will bet they will be far hardier as I'm finding the same with other succulents in that bed. I would suspect the windowpanes will be less cold hardy.

I have enough excess Haworthias that I will also consider sharing but it will have to be later in the spring as things are hectic for a few months. I will ask that if anyone is interested, please bump me later in the new year...

I'm froze in, no trading til April or may...

I bet you do find them to far hardier than expected as long as they get sited in a dry winter spot...I'm guessing tx that won't be an issue!

It sounds like your on the right track, my estimation would be exactly the same, plant very early so those roots are set!
I first thought the lens types would be less hardy too, but then I thought back to my last post, lens types with thick succulent roots can in fact regrow from those roots!
So even if they are more susceptible to frost burns and freeze damage, I bet they have the potential to burn down past the crown and kill the mother plant, yet regrow from the deeper growing roots.
These ones also bury themselves right up to the lens in nature( YouTube haworthia in situ to see some great little vids of this)
The non lens, hexangularis subgenus, attenuata and the like, lack the ability to regrow from the roots. They also grow right atop the soil, leaving them more exposed to the elements.
I think in their native habitat, it's defense from blazing sun and scorching temps, being from South Africa...but who's to say it's not a strong defense against cold too!

Thanks for that information. The bed that I will use is under the greenhouse eaves and stays very dry, only receiving moisture in a blowing rain or if I water intentionally. Currently I have an assortment of succulents planted there and all have survived short time temps in the low twenties with no protection.

So have you studied growth seasons or reproduction seasons on Haworthia plants?
