Very nice Holly. I've been saying for years that I must do this. Eventually I don't have floor space in my garage or shed to let them cure; so will have to think this through. Our iffy weather in Florida, this time of year could ruin it. One minute the sun's shining and the next, there's a storm.

Speaking of curing. How long does it take these projects? I really want to make a big leaf for a bird bath. Will Fall not be a good time to start?

You want them to cure slowly, We had ours in the shade during cooler weather of early Fall. Ric would take a hose and very "lightly" spray them each day so they wouldn't dry out too soon. They were also covered with plastic to help keep them from drying out too soon. After about 4 days they were good and solid but still soft enough to easily use the grinder and metal file to clean up the edges. Be a little careful when handling them at this stage. Since it was Fall we just let them sit in the barn till next Spring that is when I painted them. I would say that for them to be completely cured would be a couple of weeks to a month.

This project is definitely on my must-try list, too! I have some amazing rhubarb and squash leaves that would be perfect (Brenda, if you want large leaves, plant rhubarb!!) -- now I just need to get the other necessary supplies!

Holly, thanks so much for sharing your expertise Thumbs up

Great minds, Sandy. I was thinking about trying this with rhubarb leaves, too! Smiling
