Today I got a small envelope with something I ordered.
Made me real happy :)

Dictyolimon macrorrhabdos
Orostachys fimbriata
Orostachys iwarenge
Orostachys spinosa
Delosperma Firespinner
Lewisia purdyi
Physoplexis comosa
Saponaria pumilio
Saxifraga burseriana
Saxifraga longifolia
Saxifraga tombeanensis
Sedum hakonense
Androsace sempervivoides

Anyone knows... can I winter-sow ALL these???

Those are all new for me, but several sound like rock garden plants,
which I think do well as a winter sowing.
Do keep us posted on how the seeds germinate and grow.

Calin---on looking some of those up in the data bases, I have found several are warm seeders.

Dictymolimon macronhabdos in Dr. Deno says 70º F and light for germination in 5 to 7 days.

Orostachys iwaerenge Dr. Deno supplement #1 says 70º F and light for germination in 4 to 6 days

Orostachys spinosa Tom Clothier says it is biennial 70º F germinates 3 to 10 days

Delosperma cooperi Tom Clothier says surface sow at 70º F for germination in 7 to 14 days

I'll try to find information on the others over the next few days.

Hi Calin,

When the plants are hardy in your zone, you can winter sow them. That's the general rule for winter sowing.
Did you sow all the seeds, or have you some left over?

You can also wintersow annuals if you live in a fairly warm climate. Most years it works pretty well here for hardy perennials, hardy annuals. Tender annuals and tender perennials start blooming later here when wintersown than those started indoors, but it usually works pretty well. Last spring was cool and it didn't work as well as usual.

If you have lots of seeds----you might try a WS of each of them.
But if you have only a few precious seeds----then I would be more careful with the warm seeders.
Somewhere I have read that Delosperma seed rots in cold moist conditions.

Hey to all ! And Happy 2014!
Somehow I had two weeks off but I decided not to spend much time on the internet.
I finally sowed most seeds, about 12-13 pots, they are lined up on the balcony.
Weather still not freezing (we are experiencing really warm temperatures).
I am still keeping the ones Caroline mentioned (needing warmer temps).
Indeed... I wonder why some seeds coming from plants that are hardy need warmth to germinate???
Jonna I think I also sowed some of yours Smiling
I will have to check. Problem is, with these short days, when I get home it's already dark ...

Yes, Calin, the short days of winter are awful. I don't even mind the cold as much as the short days. That said, our current temp is -5° F. and I'm not wild about these temps either. Coldest weather we've had since 1996.

I've only sown the 3 types of seeds under lights, haven't done any wintersowing yet. Maybe next week.

Cold weather puts a damper on winter sowing.
I have started some Martagon seeds,
which need three months warm , then three months cold etc.
I am going to start up my lights for some of the seeds which take longer.
Our weather is warming so maybe do some winter sowing too.
