Would it be possible to add a badge, or a few of them that are not now available? I would like to see a (Certified) Master Gardener badge added and perhaps membership in some of the more important/influential plant/flower organizations, such as the Plumeria Society of America (PSA) and the American Orchid Society (AOS).

Thanks.

I'm open to the idea, especially the master gardener one. But what would it look like? There doesn't seem to be a standard logo for the master gardener program nationwide.

I don't really know. Let me do some checking with my Mississippi Master Gardener administrator and see if there are specific logos for each state and/or if there is a national logo. I guess you could always make something up, like "MG" in an oval (one badge fits all states) or "MG" in the specific state symbol. Perhaps the "MB" in the state symbol would be better, so that everyone would know where certification took place.

Each state has their own logo but there appearently is a national one. http://www.ccesaratoga.org/ima...
The problem with logos is you might encounter legal issues. For a generic MG badge, any garden related image such as, rake, trowel, potted plant etc. with the letters MG would do. I like Ken's idea for individual state images with MG. For the orchid and plumeria societies, maybe use the current badge images with the societys initial added over the image.

This is the PSA badge; we could just use the logo on the left.

I really like this idea and I have no problem doing individual state MG logos but wow, that could really become a lot of work to make them. Making a badge is not easy because of the size limitations. Going state by state could become pretty problematic, but I am willing, especially if I had some help making the badges. It's so easy for me when someone gives me a badge already made in the right size, and all I have to do is import it into the system. @Horntoad has done this a lot in the past and I'm always so grateful.

While on the topic, I couple years ago I hired an artist to redo the Texas MG logo and we can use that to get us started.

Dave, that is only a portion of the MS Master Gardener logo shown on the link. This is actually the full logo, and it can be used by MS Master Gardeners.

Using the full logo the entire thing is completely unrecognizable.

Why? The Texas Master Gardener badge seems to be much more "busy" than the Mississippi one.

I don't know. But if it's important to you I'd be glad to change it. I was just thinking it made the most sense to take the part of the logo that was recognizable and use just that.

Hum. I still don't understand the problem, but as I have already told you, I am computer ILLITERATE. Perhaps we can come up with a "made up" badge, with MG in the MS state pattern.

I changed the logo to show the complete MS logo. You may have to shift-refresh to see the change.

Wow, this all happened so quickly.

If we are going to have MG badges, then I think it is only fair to also have one for those with college degrees in horticutlture or related backgrounds. When people see how much I know, they often remark: "Are you a master gardener?". It irks me because when I tell them I have a degree (that includes a 100 times more horticulture instruction), it hardly makes an impact.
Similarly, without a badge my degrees are relegated to a lower class than a master gardener who has a badge.

That's so funny, Rich. Rolling on the floor laughing

I so wish I had more "formal" horticultural education and you wish you were a Master Gardener. You are the kind of people that taught my MG program. Hurray!

Perhaps we can design one for dentistry while we are at it - JUST JOKING! I think anyone, with horticultural education, deserves a badge. Go for it. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

It's a button on your browser, likely in the navigation menu. It looks like a circle with an arrow, or else a recycle type button.

Ok, now that is just plain weird. I popped in to read this thread and the "Reload" button on my FF browser was flashing. It's never done that before! I think Dave's messing with my computer all the way from Texas! Hilarious!
