Steady drizzle here but not quite as grey as yesterday.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others.

My daughter shoveled all the snow last night around 8pm and this morning you cannot even tell that she shoveled. We must have at least 6 inches now and it is still snowing. Staying indoors again today. I am sure the roads are bad for driving.

The Christmas/New Year's Holiday has been anything but normal here in the mountains of central Vermont. We are used to snow but the past several weeks have brought us ice storms, rain, and sub zero temps, knocking out thousands of northern Vermonters electricity for days. When ice forms on tree limbs, the weight of the ice brings down power lines. Driving has been hazardous on highways and backroads.

We have fared better in Central VT, thank goodness, but driving anywhere requires vigilance. With this current storm, it won't be the snow that is a problem but the low temps. Here is our current weather forecast for the next several days. I dream of Spring, and hope that my preparations for Winter have safely protected my 'babies' (daylilies) from this unusual weather pattern. All those 'wooly caterpillars' I saw last Fall predicted correctly this deep freeze. The coldest December in years for Vermonters!

Weather Forcast

"Our central and southern counties will get the brunt of this storm, ending up with 6-12" of this powdery snow.

It will also be dangerously cold for the next couple of days. Low temperatures and brisk, north winds will bring the wind chills into the 20s & 30s BELOW ZERO. Cover all exposed flesh to avoid frostbite. And keep the pets inside!" Blinking

Alex, that sounds very nasty! Thumbs down

Gray skies here may get snow or rain, 34 degrees, very strange weather pattern for us the past month, it has been warmer and a lot grayer, which is probably why it's been warmer, and I sure do miss the sunshine. Sad

Margaret, it is warmer there than here. We are at 25 at 10:15am, headed for 44. Warming up for Friday and Saturday (64 expected Sat.), then looks like a chilly forecast the next four days.

Too much snow all over the place. Plus with the snow we are getting really cold temps and it should get even colder. Expected to be about zero overnight Friday night into Saturday morning and honestly, that just does not happen here on Long Island. So it is quite the cold spell.

As to the snow, there is a dusting on the ground. Maybe about an inch. Now we have a break, not snowing. Then they say snow showers possible this afternoon but then the real snow is coming by 6 PM. Going to snow heavily and be cold all night over night and snow should stop by noon or so on Friday.

They might change this as this forecast has been changing for days with the show totals going up and up. Long Island is under a blizzard watch with snow total of 10 to 12 inches expected. Weather guys are saying this storm still developing so things could change. Which means snow totals still could go up. Grumbling Crying

Theresa, that looks so pretty there.

I went outside and made sure the birds got a second helping of seeds because they were about finished with this mornings. Then I filled up the suet feeder and swept my porch steps and walkway. Now nothing to do but to sit inside and wait for the snow to arrive.

We only got up to 39 yesterday, but with almost no wind, and beautiful blue skies, it felt a lot warmer. It's overcast and cold today, but I'm hoping that it warms up and the clouds clear off. I have to drive to town to get a pitch fork so that Mark can get the blackberry bushes that he has cut into the back of the truck. So, I'm thankful that it's not raining!

Time to change out of sweats - the thermometer says 80 plus but as you can see it's sitting in full on sun & it's always hotter there! Another beautiful day here in Zone 9b, unseasonably warm, even for so Cal!

Rita,

I, too filled up my bird feeder again. The Blue Jays are monopolizing the feeder, not allowing the little Snow Birds (Chickadees) to even get close. They are ravenous. I have a large suet feeder which I always keep filled. Our butcher here is wonderful. He makes bags of it after he cuts the fat off the meat, and anyone can pick up a package of suet for FREE. We love our birds here in the mountains, and care about there well being, as we do about our pets.

As for the snow, it has been snowing since 7:30am here in the mountains. It's a light snow but has already accumulated several inches. The bulk of the snow will arrive as the southern storm joins the northern storm coming across the Great Lakes this evening. The temps will plummet, and will bring in those bitter cold north winds. Hence it will become a noreaster. The temperature right now is registering at -3 below zero. Let's hope the power does not go out in the next several days. That will keep me awake all night, as I do not have a backup generator. With global warming, and weather patterns changing dramatically, a generator is on my list for installation next summer.
