Snowstorm Hercules
When I awakened this morning the temps registered -9 degrees below zero. This is the first thing I saw when I looked out my living-room windows.
After a hot cuppa of coffee, I wrapped myself up, layered my clothes carefully, found my trusty snow shovel, and started clearing my 2 decks. The sun finally appeared, and the views were breath-taking. I would say we had about 10" of snow. The mountain probably got a foot.
From the rear deck overlooking Sugarbush Ski Area.
Chickadee having breakfast on the suet holder.
From the front deck, and entrance to my home, some 'garden' pictures. The garden is buried between those 2 spruce trees, and winds its way down that slope. My plowman knows exactly where he can plow, and where not to. The second picture is taken from the rear deck looking over at part of the garden via the driveway. Plants are covered in snow.
As snowstorms go for Vermont, this was just business as usual. Skiers and boarders are in nirvana with the fresh powder snow. But even with the sun shining brilliantly, it is very cold. Overnight temps will be -15 degrees below zero and factoring in the wind chill, the weather guys say it will feel like -29 degrees below zero. Time for some hot cider with a dollop of rum.
I sincerely hope that everyone in the northeast who encountered this snowstorm is okay. Though messy, I think we dodged a bullet. I wouldn't be driving today until the snowplows have had a good run at cleaning up the highways and backroads. There will be black ice under the snow, and with these arctic temps, that ice won't be going anywhere.
