Last year I had volunteer morning glories growing among some of the roses late summer. Actually I had volunteers the year before last also. But I don't want them to grow there. So I am ordering seed for Heavenly Blue (my favorite color). Last years morning Glories were all sorts of colors but no blue.

Then I am also ordering Cypress Vine and Cardinal Climber in red. Those are annual vines with red flowers that are also in the morning glory family. They are really liked by the hummingbirds.

I will grow some in pots and some on a trellis by the back door and try and keep them away from the roses.

I am so tired of winter and the cold we have been having. Today it has warmed up to 40 degrees which is very good. Honestly if there were no snow on the ground I might be out there pruning my roses, I am so tired of winter. Hilarious! I prune them in the spring so if I prune it has to be spring, right? Rita ....

Normally, we have lots of rain or snow to keep me inside during this time of year and I find myself looking at the roses planning my pruning cuts.

This year, I am actually outside weeding and mulching and doing some clean pruning .... taking out all of the dead wood inside the plants.

The good part is that I am outside and back to ignoring the lick-and-a-promise list. The lousy part is that it is colder than I like.

The second order of wood wasn't large enough to carry me through the winter, so I am going without heat several nights during the week to ration my wood. I, too, am tired of being cold.

Smiles,
Lyn

Well, it has been much too cold to spend time outdoors here during January.

But I got stir crazy a little while ago and ordered some eggplant plants from Park seeds a few minutes ago. Having them shipped April 21. I do like to grow the summer veggies. Flowers and veggies make for the perfect garden.

These sound like such a good variety. Of course these companies make everything sound great. Rolling on the floor laughing

Yup, it's too cold to work outside here, too Smiling , but it's just as cold inside. Might as well do something to keep moving.

I at least need the snow off the ground if I want to do anything outside.

Usually, I have snow on the ground or it's raining during this time of year and I can get my housework caught up, not my garden .... Hilarious!

I would love to get my housework caught up. We've been remodeling for 6 years now and I would give anything to have a neat, clean, FINISHED house. sigh. Won't happen soon, because I'm helping my mom remodel her house to make it more accessible, and she's 200 miles away. We're also cleaning out and fixing up my in-laws house so we can sell it. My dad passed away in October and left a lot of STUFF....my in-laws both died within the past 18 months so we are still trying to tie up their stuff too. Then...my daughter just got a new job 3 hours from here so I get to help her gather her stuff to move. She's still hauling around every book she ever owned, ha much like me. My oldest daughter was supposed to move back here this year but we found out this week that it won't happen this year. So all 3 of my daughters have truly flown the coop. Crying Sad
Then...this past month we've been dealing with my dog having kidney disease. Poor girl. She was the best dog. My oldest daughter picked her out as a puppy. She was the first dog my girls and I have ever owned. All the quips about who rescued who are true--this dog rescued us, for sure. We had twelve wonderful years with her, and I'm grateful for every minute. We said goodbye yesterday and gave her a proper burial. I have never cried so hard in my life. I had no idea it would hit me so hard. All week I knew it was coming and I could barely function. My husband was a wreck too, but he was strong enough to support me. Lovey dubby Now I have to find a way to tell my daughters. The oldest one told me it was bad when I sent her the lab results and told her I was giving the dog subcutaneous fluids. I'm no nurse, but I was willing to do whatever I could. It just wasn't enough.
We're babysitting a puppy for 6 months and my other lab has been mothering the puppy so I think that helps her. She's already taught the puppy how to retrieve the newspaper in the morning. Today the puppy brought it back on her own, with my lab following like a proud mom watching a kid ride a bike without training wheels. I'm glad she's training it, because I'm busy!!! I've got to keep my head on straight because it's tax season. I know that because the table is covered with files and the whole weeks' newspapers are still unread.
Blinking
And this weather!!!! Grumbling Can I grumble about how cold it is???
I guess the good side of that is, we have duck species on the pond that we don't normally see. They got stranded here, I guess. There's some beautiful shovelers who swim in circles, eating aquatics. The bald eagles have moved out, so the ducks are safe for now. The bird feeders are busy with cardinals and woodpeckers. I really need to put drapes on the big window so i can focus on my work instead of watching the birds! Whistling

@CindiKS .......

Sorry you lost your dog ... that's hard. You'll get the work done simply because you have to get it done. Enjoy the birds, those moments during the day when you take time to watch them give you the strength to keep on keeping on.

Smiles,
Lyn
