I'm a desert Rose fanatic, I've raised them from seed and they are almost like my children, I get really upset when they die. Angry

That's a heartbreaker for sure. I hope the rest fo your seedlings all make it. I only have one in my front garden and at this moment it looks like there is no sign of life. I'll wait to see what happens in the next few weeks.

Hi Val,

I just popped in to see what's up. I know I don't live in south Florida anymore, but have some good memories of my gardening friends down your way.

I haven't run the heater in the GH all winter so brought in the few coveted tropicals and all my orchids. The orchids are all in my garden tub and sink and I now have 4 cattleyas with bloom buds on them. In the tub and sink I can put all the water on them they need. Except, when this is over, there will probably be a clog in the sink since the bark and stuff may be falling down the drain. Something I will deal with later.

Good thing I don't have a garage, I'd forget about them.

Going native is definitely a good idea, one I will put more effort into in the future. Even with natives, however, my gardens look like a wasteland right now. I don't even want to go out there.

Oh! But there are bloom buds on my Carolina Jessimine right now. They are evergreen and have only a few yellowed leaves through this ice age.

I'm going to have to re-think and consider native plants, What do they grow in the Arctic anyway? Just came in from cleaning the bird bath, my fingers actually hurt from the cold and it's so strange to see steam coming from my breathing, it brings back bad memories of being up north. Grumbling

Jim- I think when the weather gets better--we're not going to be able to keep up with all thats going on--on the "cube".
Everyone is about to bust wide open the first time the weather gets to 70 and stays there.
Its gonna be a mad-house--which is fine with me!!

Well, I could post a picture of my banana tree which had about 80 lbs of bananas on it but needed about another two or three weeks before they ripened, but it fell over dead from the cold and high winds Grumbling .the stalk was so heavy I hard time getting it to the porch where I hung it in hope of it ripening. But, that's just too sad to post. Angry

GOODGREEN,
There's always time after the sun goes down although I've been known to garden by spotlight. LOL

Jim - I can sympathize, I have a large stalk rotting on the tree too.

Well, I think it's decision time for me. I see by the Internet that for the foreseeable future the low's are not going to be below 52, and the highs anywhere from 68 to 78! I'm going to take a chance and put my potted desert rose out and leave them out. It's my intention to give a try to container gardening and I hope to begin that process today. I waiting for answers about Morning glories on the M.G. Thread and hope to start those seeds today. Also hope to plant some bulbs I bought yesterday, but have to do a little research about them, wish I could remember what they are Sticking tongue out , Tomorrow I think I will post and tell you all why I didn't get to do all I wanted to do. Ahh, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and I am well on my way.

How old (or young) were the ones you left out? Some of mine are still in the just four or five leafe stage. Did you lose any?

I brought them all in during the freezes. The ones I put back out are 2-3 yrs old. Yes I lost some because I was a day late bringing them in. I had to cut the tops off of others but they should branch out more now. The seedlings are under 1 yr old.

Hey Nancy,
Forgot to ask but did you see many dead iguanas during the cold snap?

Hi, Jan,

Not a one. But there were a couple of spots where I have a lot of ferns, that I smelled something dead. I mean REALLY dead. Think it might be one of those critters. I have since seen my resident raccoon so it wasn't him. The opossums have not been sighted lately, so who knows about them.

Last summer they left my garden alone and just made enjoyment for me. That I can live with. The ones that are seen regularly are, 'Grandpa' who is about 5-6 long, dark brown, and the teenagers, 2 bright green about 2'.

Didn't see any in other's yards or in the streets. Time will tell.

Another freeze coming in tonight. UGH!!

Nancy
