I'm sure they could Marilyn. After all, what's to lose? a throw away milk cap.

I don't keep any plants in pots permanently, only for the summer, so I've never tried them over winter. My pots get put away for winter.

Cleaned the deck yesterday and found many heavier pot feet shattered. I may go to bottle caps for the lighter weight planters.

I only buy rezin or some sort of winter proof planters.
We have no storage here.

So what is your weather like now?
How fun it is going to be planting that star shaped container. I don't think I've ever seen one like that.

I need to get busy and redo my containers. I really need to think about using pot feet of some kind. Preferably something free.

We have gone to the 50's in a week.
Nights are freezing and the soil in the gardens and containers is frozen a few inches on top.
I wait until late morning for the frost to leave the soil, then I plant.
The soil is very cold .
This week is rainy, starting last night, days in the 40's to 50's with a high of 60 on Thursday and 70 over the weekend, I cant wait.

I need to make a "rock garden" mix for the big red rectangle planter,Wild Ginger Farm order is coming Wed.
I might just hold the plants until I catch up.
This warm spell might not last and April has a tendency to go to extremes. So I make hay while the sunshines or at least while the temps co-operate.
Sorry this is so long,I've been awake since 1:30 AM.

David: the lichen looking stuff is a dormant hardy sedum,at least I believe its dormant.Lets face it there are surprises around every corner.
I went to the garden center and bought 2 five gallon buckets of " Rock Garden Soil mix " its really nice to buy it that way when you only have a few planters to fill.
They also sell it by the yard.
I bought 2 new hypertufas small round $8.00 troth $10.00

No Joanne,

I was telling you that lichens look great with shells and succulents. Not that I saw them in your pic's. You've already seen in my past pic's how I incorporate them. Smiling

Happy spring Jo Ann. Hurray!
Love those new hypertufa containers. Can't wait to see how you plant them.
Armeria will love them. I found a new one last month that is tiny and oh so sweet. I got it last month from Edelweiss.

Shims of wood, bottle caps, old poker chips, metal lids,.............large gravel. All will work. Hit the "Dollar Tree" and find 3 or 4 little decorative chotskies of choice, set them down at the base and create a unique look if needed?! Hilarious!

I was just given 2 cases of tiny terra cotta pots 1.75" each. More than 150 in each case. I thought these would make for great feet.

Welcome SoCal Tony!! Hurray!
Yes, but would the mini pots be dense enough to sustain weight of planted and watered pots?? I'm all ears!
