For those of you who said you didn't have sufficient light indoors to start many tomato seedlings, have you tried Winter Sowing? It seemed to work very well for me in the last few years. I put the milk jugs out the first of March, they germinate about the first of April and by the first of May I have little tomato "trees" that are very stocky and already hardened off. I also have the shop light on a shelf setup indoors. But the WS allows me to try extra varieties without taking up precious shelf space.

Do you put the seeds outside inside of milk jugs? I don't think I will have any bare spots on March 1st in the garden....or do you just put the jugs on a patio?

This sounds like a good idea.

Got most of my experimental k cup seedlings transplanted into yogurt cups. (moving one size up at a time) Surprisingly I haven't lost a single plant yet. Three types of basil have been transplanted into a flower box which I hope to move to the sun porch in a few weeks. Black Krim tomatoes, cayenne, jalepenos, eggplant and sweet peppers all seem close to third set of leaves. Broccoli seedlings are moving along but due to space they are only receiving light coming through window in the basement.
My best friend at the moment seems to be the fans I have on my babies for several hours a day. My agastache (peach color) seedlings are growing like crazy as well and with any luck I'll have hummingbirds this summer. I'm so ready for start more seedlings but space is limited until it gets warmer. Currently using the Turtle water from my 80 gallon tank that house two Red Eared Sliders that are 9 and 10 inches as my fertilizer. I'm using a mix of Vermiculite, Perlite and Sphagnum with a bit of coffee grinds mixed in.
Been busy collecting soda bottles and any bottles I can and getting them cut and ready for a vertical wall garden on my back deck this year.

Sounds like you will have some beautiful plants! I'm getting very lazy about starting anything, most of my seeds are direct sow this year......

I broke down and bought a small 5ft greenhouse with 4 shelves yesterday at Harbor Freight for $24.99. Hoping to get it set up for seedling use in my unheated Sun room for my cool weather plants. The room gets tons of Southern light.

I set the new greenhouse up on my indoor back porch. Gets full Southern Exposure. I raised the greenhouse up on a low coffee table so all the shelves have access to light cause of the full length windows. Gonna try some winter sowing with Tomato seeds in gallon jugs as suggested above. I have a huge supply of jugs available to me from work. Right know the temp inside the greenhouse is 48 degrees and outdoor temp is 19. I'm thinking with a little sun the greenhouse filled with gallon jug greenhouses should warm up nicely.

So a friend of mine who grows a huge garden for a homeless shelter posted that he planted over 100 peas and 100 radishes this past weekend. (lives in same town as I do) He said he always plants these two seeds just as soon as the snow is gone but before the last frost. He said he has a 99 percent germination success sowing the seeds this early. Me being the eager beaver I am and so wanting to get outside and start planting runs outside after work today. Got my shovel in hand and a few buckets of compost in five gallon pails as well as seeds in my pocket. I'm all excited to plant. Get all my equipment dragged out to the garden and ready to put in work turning the ground that is bare of snow and add in the new nutrients. UGHHHHH, put the shovel to the ground and step on the edge to push down and start turning. It was hard as a rock, frozen solid at least 4 inches thick. All I was able to do was slightly lift the top four inch by 5 foot block of ice. Oh well maybe by the weekend the ice block will have melted.

After my disappointing garden adventure today, I came in and twisted off my sweet potato slips. Got them sitting in water so they can root and be ready to plant soon outdoors. This is my first year attempting to grow Sweet Potatoes. Going to try growing the sweet potatoes in a Burlap bag.
Filled a planter that I use on my deck with a potting soil mix and planted about 25 Radish seeds. I grew Radishes last year this way and it worked out great. I need a radish fix reel soon.
