I think mine is actually a little bluer than my pic shows, at least on my screen. It is probably more the color of Mikes.
I found the scapes to be kind of thin, I guess that is relative, I had some flimsier, but it did not have the really heavy thick scapes some dl have. I had it for 7 or 8 years. It was a good performer and always bloomed well and I don't remember having a lot of trouble w pests on that one.

OT sorry.

If I were the original poster I would contact my seller and see what they said about the seeds being white. You may even refer them to this thread. I would definitely want to let them know right away that you are unsure if you are happy with your purchase because if you paid very much, you will want a refund if none of them sprout.

I sent an e-mail about them already but haven't received a reply yet. For those who have skinned their seeds, are they hard like little bits of gravel? These seem to still have skins on them or should I say more like shells. I put two in a bit of water this morning and will see if they have softened at all when I get home.

The ones I peeled were hard and it's most likely because they have been sitting in their packets in a cabinet. These were some I had from 2 seasons ago that I have not thrown out yet. The ones I have put in the fridge before were more soft but that's probably because they still had some moisture in them.

If these are daylily seeds, I find it very odd that a seller would peel them, especially without any mention of it. At the very least, it should have been mentioned that they weren't the normal black color. I wouldn't be happy at all if this is what I received.

They may have peeled them because they had a dusting of mold starting on them.

The two I put in a bit of water yesterday morning before I went to work have softened up and plumped up a bit and now look like the seeds in Hemlady's photo of white seeds in the bowl. Still haven't received any response to my e-mail though. I'm thinking of sacrificing one and dissecting one to see if there is an embryo with any signs of life.

I certainly hope that wasn't the case!

Well I have received a response from the seller. He said he has checked with a few well known hybridizers (he gave me their names but I won't name them here) who said that as long as they were collected from mature pods they should be fine. He also asked me to let him know how they do and if they don't grow he will refund my money. A response worth the wait and well received. I'm happy and will wait and see what comes of them. I'll post the results come spring. Green Grin!

Did he say if they were peeled or if that was the color they were in the pod?

He said that's the colour they were. Now that I have 2 rehydrated seeds they do look like ordinary (except the colour) daylily seeds and they do still have the skin on them.

I hope they grow for you

IMHO the seller should have at least stated in the auction that they were not black but he has been assured that they are viable or something to that nature.

The outer covering of seeds is usually the same as the pod parent genetically. That means all seeds produced by Sharon's Delight should be the 'white/beige' colour no matter which cultivar is the pollen parent. Sharon's Delight was hybridized by Norris. You might try asking Richard Norris (email address on this web page http://www.ashwooddaylilies.co...) if he has used Sharon's Delight as a pod parent and whether it produces white mature seeds.

Well, Moonlight Orchid produced all white mature seeds for me. Wish I hadn't thrown them out.

I am glad Michelle showed us seeds she had peeled so that I don't have to be as suspicious of that seller.....to me it makes no sense to peel them...especially if one doesn't plan on planting them right away..I think that black,, shiny, wrinkly coat is on for a reason.
With that said..I am curious to know if the seller is new to the Lily Auction and if not, how is their feedback? I think it would be very helpful for you to write to them and ask them what they had in mind when they peeled off the outer coating and make sure you have a photo of them to send with your post. There is an outside chance that they could be totally different seeds that the seller sells on some other site and mistakenly sent them to you instead. They look very familiar to me as to some other perennial seeds that I have planted but I can't recall what that seed was/is. I wish I could help and give you some other seed name to see if that would be it. I hope this can be resolved and would appreciate an update if you are so inclined.

ok so seriously this is the link I was actually looking at when I found THAT one....

https://www.google.com/search?... images of morning glory seeds.

I was thinking that more pics of seeds should be posted in the data base, most people just think to include pics of the blooms, but seeds are handy to ID also.
