Speaking about older daylilies, in 2010 when my passion for daylilies was taking off, I purchased the following daylily from Fay Shooter at Marietta Gardens. This plant has been a sheer delight for me in every respect. Faye did not tell me at the time of purchase that this daylily doubles. At least for me it doubles 50% of the time. It starts out as a single, and as the temps warm up, it begins to double for about a month, and then returns to a single in mid August as the temps cool down. This one bloomed for almost 8 weeks.

MERCURY RISING - Color is a burnt sienna with a red eye. Has many different looks during its bloom season. A delightful daylily.

Betty….Wow, you have been holding out on us. Really nice daylilies. My favorite is 'Firecracker Parade' hands down. But I also love 'Paco Bell', 'Patricia Snyder Memorial', and 'Mix and Match'

Mercury Rising is sure nice, Alex. So you're saying it is like a box of chocolates, you just never know what you're gonna get?

Betty, you have so many red eyed ones! I really like so many of them. There is something about the picture of SP Little Big Eye that I really like. Even though it is not a bright, vivid picture, it just has some lovely color-blending.

Patricia Snyder Memorial is beautiful! Caught my eye right away!

Vickie…I love surprises. Double the trouble, and three times the pleasure. There's more to the story concerning, 'Mercury Rising'. Nowhere in the description of this daylily did Faye write that the daylily doubles. So last Summer when I tried to enter this lily in the database, California Sue wrote back to me, saying this couldn't be 'Mercury Rising' because the description doesn't mention the plant doubling. So, I wrote to Faye, and asked her."DOES THIS DAYLILY DOUBLE??? Sure enough, Faye's email came back to me, and she said, yes indeed, 'Mercury Rising' does double. So I sent her email to Cal. Sue, and she corrected the database, entered my bloom, and corrected the info to read that 'Mercury Rising' doubles 50% of the time.

Fred did not register that one. He did sell some of it on the auction though, it went for big bucks so I didn't win any of it.

As for the TET. PEPPERMINT DELIGHT bloom size I don't really measure blooms, but the bloom size on the original diploid is registered at 6" and it's probably about the same size. I have it planted in my "colorful bed" and the blooms really stand out.

Betty - How I love the look of Raspberries In Cream. I've bought it and lost it twice. It just doesn't seem to like my freeze and thaw climate.

And for whoever posted the Abilene Lillian photo, I have had that one for two years without a bloom. Maybe next season ...

PATRICIA SNIDER MEMORIAL is a wonderful red-eyed UF. It's one of my earliest bloomers each year, and it's always very photogenic.
