The sasanquas bloom in the fall, while the japonicas bloom now. A nickname for Sacramento is the Camellia capital - needless to say, we have lots of camellias growing here. I don't know if the hardiness differs between the two.

I'm not comfortable with Z6 as the first number.I like 4 or 5 to start zone tolerance for any thing I plant

Me either! I agree I do not like zone 8 as the first number because sometimes, like this year, we have a bad winter and the temps are more like zone 7.

I have to say I've been a neglectful gardener, and I've been meaning to water the plants stored in the basement for winter. I went down today, feeling really guilty, and found a nice surprise.

My schlum that had already bloomed during December is blooming again. I think it was scared into blooming, so that I would notice it Smiling

My Nun's orchid is also blooming, never mind that it didn't bloom when it was outside.

Both of these plants sit by the window, and also get light from the orchidarium, which contains my neglected orchids.

Wow .. is there such thing as an Easter Cactus? That Nun's Orchid is stunning .. I'm adding that to my 'gotta have' list right now!

There are Easter cactus (Rhipsalidopsis). I have a few of those as well, they bloomed late last summer, my plants are all confused, LOL.

The Nun's orchid was a great find at one of our local nurseries last year. I love the foliage, and now the lovely blooms, a nice treat for this cold, dank time of year.

I agree Very pretty, such a nice treat this time of year. Also, very cool to get rebloom on the schlum. Maybe that is the secret...ignore them. LOL.

Here's my Euphorbia which is anything but tiny Big Grin
That Tiny Tim sure is cute though.
I started out with the plant in the back, and neglected to cut off the blooms before they started to drop seeds. They are scattered throughout the front yard and I am going to have to do some serious weeding.

Thanks, Arlene and Susan.

I am not really sure - at one time, I did buy an Euphorbia Jade Dragon, but not sure if this is the same one. I have moved this plant several times when it outgrew the original spots. I finally got a spot in the rear of the garden where it can grow until I prune it back. If any one wants seeds, I can save some. They get flinged all over the yard and I get babies everywhere. The one good thing I like about this plant is that it flowers early when not too much is in bloom, and in a pinch, I have used it in arrangements.

Other bloomers -

I have leucojums in three different spots - the sunniest location bloomed about a month ago, this half shade/half sun has been blooming about 2 weeks, and the shadiest is blooming now

And cymbidiums. I can never grow orchids indoors, so I resign myself to growing ones that are hardy outside. But, I like cymbidiums so that is not a problem.
