Hi all. My father-in-law is looking to buy a red rose on a standard. I have looked at a few David Austin roses and they look very good. I was wondering if y'all could give other ideas on where to look for quality roses that will be grown in zone 8 GA.

Zone 8 Georgia is very different from my dry zone 6/7 climate, so I'm not sure if I'm qualified to give advice.
Austin roses are offering L.D. Braithwaite as a standard.

That rose grows beautifully here in our heat as a regular shrub rose, and I have not noticed any blackspot on the few weeks where humidity is high.
Can't comment on tree roses because I don't have a area sheltered from wind where I can place them!

Hopefully someone from the south will chime in!

L.D. Braithwaite is the perfect Austin rose for a standard. It has strong stems that keep the blooms upright. So many of the other Austin blooms "nod" because they're too heavy for the stems and would make the top of a standard look droopy.
