This is one of my favorite dahlias. It's a dark red ball introduced by Cor Geerling (Holland) in 1994. His wifes name is Nel (really).
It is currently listed as a Ball Type, but previously I think it was listed as a Formal Decorative.
Popular in the Dahlia shows, has ~2000 awards.
I have been growing it since 2007. It grows well here in Michigan.

I have some similar dahlias, not quite as pretty. But they are NOID. My mom gave be a bag of mixed tubers several years ago. I have managed to get my red ones to survive for three years. Hoping I will get a fourth this coming summer. My neighbors on both sides (who are not real close) both commented on how striking they are. Here are some pics, not the best though.

The red ones really do stand out and they do get noticed by those passing. Yours are lovely, Jennifer.

Frank - I have Cornel on my list for my son-in-law's birthday since he's a Cornell U. grad. Love your photos!

I agree
