Thank you Brook, I don't know how much you know about the science of plants. During the day we humans breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. The plants need the carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen for us to breathe. Many plants take bad stuff out of the air like formaldehyde, acetone, toluene and other stuff I can't remember. (Rick is very knowledgeable on chemistry.) These things come into the air on new clothing, paint, and clothes that are dry cleaned in addition to many other ways. Spider plants are well known for cleaning the air and Pothos is at the top of the list too. There are some good youtube videos on this.

Just don't do what I did which is to care for them so much that I ended up killing them in the process. It will take a good month or so before you know if they are making progress. There is also time lapse photography of plants growing on youtube. It is kind of fun to watch.

You can also just grow a pothos in a pretty bottle of water --- no soil. Every once in a while give it a hint, just a hint of water soluble fertilizer & make sure the water is over the roots.

If you want to grow them in water you can just simply leave them in the water forever. Well, that's relative --- as it grows you would need to move it up to a larger bottle or cut it back but they will grow in water alone.

The water does tend to get rather green, tho. Who, me? I've never forgotten one in water...nope...never! Whistling

Well, yeh, it does help to dump the water out & change it about once a week.

You would want to cut both the roots & the foliage back but I've seen them in bottles of water where they had so many roots it was a knotted mess you couldn't even get out of the neck of the bottle so it will take quite some time before yours gets to that point.

Pothos are almost indestructible, I swear. I had one in a too small pot, stuffed in a corner where I forgot to water it, and just figured it was dead. I happened to spill some water into the pot when I was watering a plant next to it, and next thing I knew, the darn thing was growing again! Hilarious!

Someone gave me a plant like that, once, to grow in water.

I put it into a big glass peanut butter jar and gave it a big drink, but then like Woofie's plant, "out of sight, out of mind"

The next time I looked, it had lots of roots, but it had drunk all the water! I was sure it was dead and just LOOKED well-preserved, but I gave it more water anyway.

Back from the dead. Lazarus plant.
