Hi, I am new to ATP and in desperate need to ID a few sedums.

I am an English University student and for my final year project I am surveying a sedum green roof. I have been provided with a sedum mix list (below) of what is on the roof however have been trying to ID the sedums for weeks!

Sedum acre
Sedum album 'Bella d' Inverno'
Sedum album 'Coral Carpet'
Sedum ewersii
Sedum kamtschaticum subsp. Ellacombianum
Sedum kamtschaticum var. floriferum 'Weihenstephaner Gold'
Sedum montanum subsp. orientale
Sedum pulchellum
Sedum rupestre (reflexum)
Sedum sexangulare
Sedum spurium mesemlanthemum = Delosferma
Sedum spurium mesemlanthemum = hallii
Sedum verticillatum

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me ID these...

Thumb of 2014-01-24/highfran/90ad1c Spurium (not sure which one)?

Thumb of 2014-01-24/highfran/328a35 Sedum album 'bella d inverno' and 'coral carpet,' Sedum spurium AND sedum acre?

Welcome HighFran! Welcome!
I am not confident enough to offer ID help but I am sure a few of the other members (some with very discerning eyes...) will be more help in making distinctions among these sedums that are grouped together.

I do have a link that you can look thru, given that you have names already to guide you, to help you zero in on what's what:
Best of luck on your project!

Hello there highfran, and a big Welcome! to ATP.
Lets see if we can get at least some of them IDed for you.
Sedum acre Sedum (Sedum acre)
Sedum album 'Bella d' Inverno' There are two photos at this link. http://www.sedumphotos.net/v/sedum-a/Sedum+album+Bella+d_+In...
Sedum album 'Coral Carpet'http://garden.org/plants/view/74380/Stonecrop-Sedum-album-Coral-Carpet/
Sedum ewersii A name change for this one: Hylotelephium ewersii, one of my favorites. Pink Mongolian Stonecrop (Hylotelephium ewersii)
Sedum kamtschaticum subsp. Ellacombianum has had a name change to Phedimus ellacombianus Phedimus ellacombianus
Sedum kamtschaticum var. floriferum 'Weihenstephaner Gold' This one has also had a name change: Phedimus floriferus 'Weihenstephaner Gold' Orange Stonecrop (Phedimus floriferus 'Weihenstephaner Gold')
Sedum montanum subsp. orientale Another name change: Petrosedum orientale http://www.sedumphotos.net/v/sedum-mno/Sedum+montanum+orient...
Sedum pulchellum http://ozarkedgewildflowers.com/summer-wildflowers/widows-cr...
Sedum rupestre (reflexum) Another name change: Petrosedum rupestre subsp. rupestre Stonecrop (Petrosedum rupestre subsp. rupestre)
Sedum sexangulare Stonecrop (Sedum sexangulare)
Sedum spurium mesemlanthemum = Delosferma
Sedum spurium mesemlanthemum = hallii
Sedum verticillatum Another name change: Hylotelephium verticillatum http://www.sedumphotos.net/v/sedum-tuv/?g2_page=8

I believe these two are not sedum, but delosperma species. They would be easy to discern from the sedum in the mix. Hope this has been helpful? Let us know how your final year project goes.
This site has a photo of Delosperma hallii and some other species delosperma. It will give you an idea of what to look for in the leaves. Thumbs up

Lynn, hope you are back on the mend. You must have a little energy back; that was a whole lot of typing in that informative post!

Hi Webesemps and Valleylynn,

Thank you so so much for your replies!

I didn't realise there were so many name changes. Thank you for all of the links you've provided Valleylynn, I will have a good sit down and look through them.

I'm back on the roof for another survey in February but I doubt it will be very successful as it is not exactly ideal weather to ID sedums at the moment.

Thank you again!
Fran

Fran, were do you live? As in what is your weather like now?
You are correct about it being difficult to identify some of the sedum at this time of year.

I can discern the two different Sedum album in your below photo. Can you see the differences? I can also see the funny little S. acre, at this time of year their leaves almost look like tiny scales.

Hello @highfran I'm coming late to this thread, but wanted to say that in your last photo it looks like sedum rupestra, which tends to die back in the winter. I hope your project goes great!
Cheers
I tip my hat to you.

Valleylyn sorry for the late reply! I live in Coventry, England and we're currently receiving heavy rainfall, a lot more than we should be at this time of the year. Our temperatures don't seem to be going any lower than 4C either so we haven't really had much of a winter but some of the sedums have died back and the flowers can no longer be seen.

I can definitely see the two different sedum albums, at first I just thought it had discolored due to the weather. Yes, I did think that was sedum acre too so thank you very much!

gg5 thank you, I hope it's still there when I go back on the roof this Saturday seeing as we haven't really had a proper winter yet.
