Oh, you give me hope! I've had Beautiful Edgings for two years but no blooms. Not its fault, I think, as it took a beating with all the others that went directly into my blast furnace garden their first year. Is it already blooming for you this year? So lovely!!! Lovey dubby

I am looking forward to BE - it should flower first for me this coming season.

That is awesome to know, Jan, thanks! I have been waiting to get pink-purple-red-eyed daylily that has a good rust rating because there are so many to choose from but little info about bloom numbers. I'll be adding this one to my list! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

It is one of my first daylily purchases from a local daylily sale. It has always performed well for me and is one of my "keep forevers"

The "Candy" daylilies were some of the first I purchased. I will always have Strawberry Candy and Custard Candy in my garden. They just do so well and are lovely in a clump.

I hear ya, Glen ... went to the DB and saw ... gulped a little hard. So, how about this - let's cut to the chase. I'll post a few focused posts here with pictures for a comparison discussion, if others will be so kind. Would absolutely love to hear about bud-count, length of time blooming/re-blooming, color (clearness, saturation, pleasant shades, etc.), general vitality, how scapes are held, and general health (crown rot, aphids, leaf streak, etc.).

The collective experience of everyone at ATP would be most helpful!

PLANET MAX. High bud count AND high scape count. Tina, a thought, how many scapes can a clump have? Is it one for each fan? 2? Even 3?

The norm is 1 scape per fan but I know and have seen pics of some getting 2 scapes per fan.

So one could select for more than one scape per fan, Cindy? That is interesting I'm all ears!

Yes, but I am sorry I don't remember which daylilies I saw that had 2 fans per scape. It wasn't any time recent that I heard about that trait. I don't think it is too common.

So here are just a few of many, many pink or red eyed look-alikes that are good matches for gardens that grow semi- and evergreens. Comments are welcome on any you have experience with, and thanks! Looking for info on:

Blooming: Bud count, early/mid/late in your garden, length of time blooming.

Increase: slow/medium/fast, stays in clump or travels around.

Color: sunfast (melting), colorfast (fading), saturation (depth of color), aesthetics (clear or pleasing color), etc.

Scape: straight, bendy, stiff, flexible, holds buds high/medium/low.
Fertility: any luck?

****You can see the happy problem ... there are a bounty of near look-alikes out there to hybridize with, and not _that_ much space in my garden to observe them and narrow down the attributes I'd desire (and no info from their registrations). I know that these may be less commonly kept, so fewer people may know their secrets. For that reason, any info is much appreciated!

I'd guess that some of these other daylilies would be pretty well known, and would easily pair with the ones above if added features, like edges, are wanted. Any idea if they are high-bud count, or would best be started with crosses to help them?

Or ........... complex eyes?

Hands down, Spacecoast Tiny Perfection. I was reading Floota's blog and she had good results with this cultivar too.

Awesome! You know, I've long wondered about STP and would have it at the top of my list if I could just find out what the wide range of color in the database means. Most look orange, but enough look pink that I wonder - do you find that it starts out one shade and turns to another? Or, are some blossoms different colors than later ones?

And, what about increase? Does it hold steady (1-2 new fans a year) or grow quite rapidly?

Thanks for any info you have from your garden - much appreciated. Hurray!

Lol mine was not an orange orange. I had morning and afternoon sun on it and it was never the the color of the first photo. For a mini(mine were more a small flower than a mini) the foliage was thicker not wispy and was a good increaser. I want to say I had several fans to start with also so that helped with the big display.

Unfortunately it was one of the casualties of my neglect of 4 yrs but when I get ready for a mini border garden again it will be there.

Thanks, Kabby, the deeper orange may just be people's camera effect, then. Your comments are so helpful in providing a much rounder picture. The fast increase may keep me from going in that direction, but other than my goal for slow increasing fans, this is one super daylily for both display and hybridization. Thumbs up

... still hoping to find some recommendations for higher bud count daylilies that people are enjoying in their gardens. Now that the colder zones are heading into peak bloom, just thought I'd pop this up to see if anyone is noticing some nice cluster-blooming going on in their gardens?
