It must be just a Thlaspi arvensis (Pennycress) volunteer, but what a nice form. I am tempted to save seed and see if it is really a true dwarf.

Here it is...the first rock garden bloom that I can actually claim! Big Grin

Shown here after the first below freezing night.

I have it marked as Draba sakuraii , and from an amateur's viewpoint I'd say it's a match.

There's also a bud forming on what I have marked as Prairie Smoke (Geum triflorum) ...at least I think it might be called a bud at this point?

Are all the little tulips several posts back tulip gregii? I planted some two falls ago and they never came up. Had a horrible spring with little snow and freeze/thaw cycles to beat the band. They might survive in a rock bed environment though. Lost all my big lilies (Orienpets) and several peonies.

I took a look back...
most of those tulips pictured are kaufmanniana types, and a humilis--
the one with the gorgeous spotted leaves, no blooms, is a gregii.

Although I am not always successful in getting them as deep as I want, I find that planting the bulbs deeper than usual/recommended does help.

Since then, I have really become enamored of the clusiana types

for the rock garden because they don't have leaves that annoy me while I wait for them to die back!
They should be good to zone 3

I also planted more of this one, T. whittallii, this year

@dirtdorphins thanks for the suggestions. I will look them up for future (next spring) reference.

That's why I like Colchicum x agrippinum over the other Colchicum species, too.
