This was my logic last year but I did not want to seem cruel, I did not feel cruel! I have planted plenty of plants for birds and butterflies and also for insects. I thought more insects would attract more birds but I never thought of using suet to attract them. Thanks for the idea and the fresh water is very important too.

Aha! Never thought of attracting meat-eating birds in particular; thank you! I must buy some suet--I had seed out, and the seed-eaters love me, but I need birds that love bugs! Also have some stale nuts I'll chop up...
