Ok. Well. Finally took some pix.
Problem is I get home at 5 and it's just about getting dark. Plus our days are not too sunny these...days :)
At close inspection, YES, I should spare an hour and clean it just a little bit. Maybe this weekend?
But those snails inside look "happy" munching the decaying leaf.

Oh thank you, Calin, for taking the time to show us your still-looking-good water garden. I think it is good idea of the inspection and plans to clean.

I just know that I read somewhere that one can keep goldfish (if you don't think that's too boring of a fish) without need of air pump if there's certain rules that are followed. You may think it too much to do in your busy day schedule, but here's a link:

Hey Bev... Cool info.
Not sure it's do-able for me.
I guess it would be. Sounds super-easy. But I am sure I'd call it a chore after a few weeks, or months of 3-times-a-week cleaning.
Plus when the weather warms up, I'll probably spend more time in the... garden!
A real nice fish tank - this is another story. I'm thinking about getting one. I always enjoyed looking at all different fish in the tank...

Your plant and the snails look very happy indeed Calin! Those tiny little snails used to be the baine of my life when I kept fish. I had a beautiful 5ft tank with a few live plants. One of them must have had a couple of snails on it when I bought it and being so small I didn't notice them until they began to multiply.... I ended up with hundreds lol I thought that my puffer fish might make a snack of them, but it turns out that he wasn't interested in anything smaller than a cockle in its shell.

Hehehe.... in my case, being the only living creatures, I love them.
There used to be a time when the bowl looked infested with them then their number declined that I thought they had all died and they made a comeback.

Kate, I love puffer fish and always look for them when I visit any aquarium, anywhere!!!
Calin, fish tank sounds do-able and then maybe the property for the semps and other plants?

Bev He was the only fish that really felt like a proper pet, he used to go to the closest point in the tank to follow me around the room, and if you smiled at him he'd show you his teeth! Although puffer teeth are pretty scary when you see them close up and watch them crunch through their food. I wouldn't want to dip a finger in! I sold the tank after he died, he was irreplaceable.

Kate, was he salt water or fresh water (usually smaller polky dotted ones) puffer? The one in the aquariums (there's never more than one I notice; why is that?) are usually shy and one has to really stand for a long time scanning the entire waterscape to find that one Puffer... Rolling my eyes. And I get so excited when I can spot that lone one!! Hurray!

He was fresh water, a Mbu (giant fresh water) puffer. It sounds silly to say a fish can be friendly, but he genuinely was! Lovey dubby
I have seen more than one puffer in a tank, but only the smaller ones. Most puffers get so big that it's hard to house more than one, My Mbu was just over 18 inches long, but they can get up the over 2 ft, and some of the salt water ones can be even bigger! I did have a small tank with a spotted puffer in, that was cute too - liked to play in the bubbles from the diffuser stone lol but was too small to be a proper pet.

I had goldfish which were totally friendly!! They'd come up and nibble gently on my fingers to say hello!! They'd do the same thing - follow me around as I walk nearby! I loved it!! (most of my friends said its just that they're hungry, but I don't believe that was always true! Of course they do have large appetites, but they're very cute and funny in their own way!) Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Lovey dubby Calin - contrary to what Bev suggested, please don't put semps in the space of your water bowls, they'd NOT enjoy that at all! Blinking nodding Hilarious!

Calin that water garden looks quite nice I think. And how much fun to watch the snails keeping the bowl clean. Lovey dubby
They just don't move around as fast as a fish would. Green Grin!

Funny you should mention that... I am just about to buy a small piece of land.
It's 2100 sqm (can't do the feet thing) and it's quite in the "wilderness". It's on the hills outside the city where there used to be a large orchard (in the good old communist times).
Just a neighbor to the left and to the right... deserted hills with old fruit trees.

If all goes well... tomorrow we're "signing the papers".

Many years ago, I kept, bred, raised and sold the Siamese Fighting fish, Betta splendens, as well as a few of their closer relatives. It was a fun and interesting activity.

Calin, the size of your garden looks appropriate for one of the Betta's. There are many myths about these fish that circulate.

First of all, they do not, as a rule, fight other fish. Two males in the same tank or that can see each other will "flare" and fight for dominance. They do not kill each other, although the loser may die later after some time (many days, perhaps months) due to loss of territory, feeding priorities and deportment. That is unusual. Usually the loser will avoid the victor for a few days, then choose to fight again. For entertainment with a single male, just provide a mirror from time to time.

Second, they do not require air pumps or filters, as long as you maintain water quality by not overfeeding and using periodic water changes. They do need more space than the small containers they are sold and shipped in. They need warm water, 76-78 degrees F for best health. An unheated bowl in a 70 degree room will cause loss of health over time. Soft water is best.

Third, they make good pets. They learn to recognize people in the room near them. They will easily learn to take food from your finger tips. I used to feed mine with a tiny piece of chicken on the tip of the finger. They would come to the surface and take the chicken. Occasionally they would miss the chicken bite the skin of my finger. Not to worry, they do not hurt nor can they break the skin.

In the modern world, there are now many different species of Betta's available. Since I was keeping B. splendens, additional species have been discovered, and now international shipping of species unknown then are now easily available worldwide from breeders and collectors. I still keep a couple of small tanks going. I have a casual collection of different kinds of small snails, some shrimp, guppies and a mated pair of Flame Honey Gourami's.

BTW, they now make small filters that are suitable for small Betta containers. I don't have any nor do I know product names, but they are available here in stores and mail order.

Also, check out Bamboo shrimp. I have one that is my latest addition and very unusual. None of the pictures I've seen truly display the weirdly formed "hands" of the shrimp. Instead of fingers, it has filaments that form fans to filter the water. Periodically it closes up the filaments to place the contents in its mouth, located near the middle of its under-abdomen. I sit and watch it for hours sometimes.
The best pic for showing the fans I've been able to find so far is here:
http://shop.sweetknowleaquatic...
Here's a pic of the type of Honey Gourami I have: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping...

I also am growing a number of aquatic plants in the tanks, probably 8 or nine different kinds at this point. Like the species of Bettas, it is now much, much easier to get nice aquatic plants, many species that were not generally available until just a few years ago.
