Both those are really not hardy here, although 'Zebra' will do better.

I find "Zebra" (or the name I prefer 'Aurea Variegata') to be a stronger grower than 'Argentea Variegata' (aka 'Alba Variegata', or just plain 'Argentea').

I'll look forward to smelling 'Swerti' next year...

I wanted to mention here, that I encountered a Kool-Aid smelling Iris, one day, in someone's garden in the 80's. It haunted me until I found a true Grape fragrance in the Iris Southland Grape.
I just ended up posting two new photos for it, which I was then going to add to this forum. At the end of posting the new pictures, I thought I'd add a comment about Southland Grapes memorable Grape fragrance. I was able to drag a photo down into the comment, and when I submitted it, I found that I'd started a Thread! Crying I'm not even sure how to tell you to find it, or I'd try to put a link to it.

I still have a lot to learn about posting replies. And I haven't managed to duplicate a photo that I've put into the Database, to this space. *Blush* That's why I was so amazed that I could drag my photo into the comment box. And if I should hit Preview, I'm blocked off from reading the previous posts in here, so that I can make appropriate comments. If I go out of this box, sometimes my entire entry is erased.
Sometimes there is a message at the bottom that you can save a draft, but I don't know where to find it. Shrug!

@dave Sorry to vent here. Maybe things will be easier with the changes that are coming??

Thanks Tom, for that info. Don't know what I did wrong to lose what I'd written that last time. Rolling my eyes.

Niki, 'Grape Harvest looks marvellous, especially with the wonderful lavender blue beard against the rich purple self. Hope it has a suitable Grape fragrance. Let me know, please, when it blooms for you next year. Smiling

@HemNorth, the preview glitch has been fixed.
You can't drag and drop images into posts though, that may be why everything went wonky.
To add an image from the database to your post, from the database entry, enlarge the image first and then copy and paste the BB Code right above it. It includes the two brackets on either side, just leave off the "BB Code" part.

The vendor I got 'Zebra' from (as a bonus) also had 'Aurea Variegata' listed separately - so I assumed there is a difference?
Or is it just a case of commercial name vs. the correct Latin name?

Just found this thread, if anyone still wants some "grape Kool-Aid" fragrance. I had always wondered what the pass-alongs that I've got are. They are very vigorous growers, early bloomers, and a beautiful pale color. I guess they are Dalmatica. If anyone wants any, please let me know as I have several large clumps that could easily be shared. (and that will give room for other stuff to grow!)

Oh no I didn't realize there was a difference between pallida argentea and pallida zebra I checked the tags of both but didn't get past pallida and the grape scent. D'Oh! I guess I better read the labels a bit more carefully sigh...

What makes an iris a pallida? Or Dalmatica? I see he names separate and together. Thanks! Ruth

I have some of the grape scented iris that a friend gave me years ago. They are the first to bloom. I like the fact that they have smaller blooms so don't topple over like some of the huge bloom irises do.
