I really enjoyed this podcast; how wonderful that the children have begun their own seed selling business!! I need to purchase some of those Mexico Midget Tomato Seeds; I remember Katie talking about those on a previous podcast awhile back! Oh my goodness, we had dinner a couple of hours ago but now I'm hungry after listening to y'all. Green Grin! The description of cooking the butternut squash sounds really good, both the oven method with a slab of butter in the seed cavity as well as mashing them with apples, brown sugar and cinnamon!! Yum!

Listening to this podcast makes me wish I had enough land for a vegetable garden! Great job y'all! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Super podcast! I loved hearing from Katie, Jon, and Abigail. They're full of self-confidence and eager to share their knowledge of plants and gardening techniques. I especially enjoyed the discussion of carcass removal combined with chicken feeding. Hilarious!

Adding to my earlier comments: Great Job Dave & Trish of raising your children so well, they are so smart and so very well spoken for their ages! Lovey dubby

I've never had purple hull peas but they sound awesome, especially cooked with bacon ... I'm from the south and I always cook my green beans with onion and bacon because that's the way my my mother and my grandmother cooked them; whenever we eat out somewhere and I have green beans, they just don't taste right. Smiling

Great job to all the children on this podcast chat. Their gardening efforts are so interesting to hear about and I'm sure their new seed selling business will be a big success! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Thanks, both of you. Smiling

We were all shocked over Jon's frank description of the bones!!! Katie and Abigail gave him a really hard time later and suggested to me that I edit it out. But, I left it in because it's a reality of farm life and it's something that is really out there.

You can see the bones in this photo:

I think it will probably be considered gross more to girls than to boys but I still laugh because it's all a part of nature and I bet the chickens had a feast! Love the photo. Green Grin!

Dave and Trish, you seem to be doing a wonderful job, farm life seems to be the perfect life for your family. I don't won't to pick favorites, or point out any one over the other and I know you love all your kids the same, but Abigail was so cute I had to listen to her part twice, but great job everyone. Hurray!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the children's podcast! You better watch out Dave, I can see Katie taking over that part of ATP in the future! Loved all her great details and her enthusiasm. I'm impressed with the worm harvesting that she and Jon are doing! I laughed and laughed at parts of Jon's podcast! The steer bones and maggot description was so funny! At only 13, he obviously has the muscles and strength to do the double digging of his garden areas! I can't imagine digging like that! I also enjoyed his information about camera settings! Abigail was also a delight! I agree with her about making lasagna garden beds! She is a spunky young lady and sold me on the Swiss Chard "Bright Lights"!

All 3 of the children sold me on some of their seeds. I am thinking of trying a keyhole raised bed this year so that I can try vegetable gardening. I am new to edible gardening, so I appreciate their choices in plants and why. I live in Florida, so the climate is similar to Texas, therefore I have confidence that the children's seeds will grow well here in FL. And it also sounds like they are some great edible plants!

I am also impressed that the children had their podcast speeches prepared (typed, no less!!!) in advance so they could stay on track (except when dad got them off-track) of what topics they were planning to discuss. I will be ordering seeds from them this weekend.

A very informative and entertaining podcast! Thumbs up

I enjoyed the podcast and really enjoyed listening to the children. So confident and mature. What a great life, growing up on a farm. You and Trish have a lot to be proud of.

I really wanted to buy seeds but I have purchased my seeds for the year and have a huge package from the seed swap coming too. Maybe next year a bit earlier? I think it's wonderful they have started this business.

I really wanted to buy some Kellog's Breakfast we talked about last year...maybe they'll have a 3 pounder and I'll get some next year!

I'll give them your feedback about doing this a bit earlier next year. Probably having it ready by early January would be better!

@Dave: I agree with all the compliments to you and Trish for raising your family the right way, your children are and will continue to be great assets to our society. Do any of the children have an interest in computer technology/programming/web development like Dad? At least one could possibly be the future ATP administrator ... that is if dad gets to an age where he tires of doing it and decides to concentrate on being a full time grandpa. Green Grin!

Katie took a class in programming this year, and enjoyed it.
Jon really has the mind for it with his logic and math skills, but hasn't shown a particular interest yet.

We've always said that someday one (more? all?) of them may take over the family business, but we've never been the sort of parents to push a "what do you want to do when you grow up" decision at all. At this point, our goal is a great education, and as they get older to allow them the freedom and opportunity to follow and explore their interests.

Trish: That's the best way to go. You and Dave are giving your children a good solid foundation; they will decide what brings them joy and what career course they want to pursue as they get older.

Lovey dubby Love, Love, Love your new avatar; those two boys are growing up sooo fast! I bet they will be excited about being big brothers when their baby sister arrives!
