Hi all, thought I'd share here my slate hanging garden. It is a metal shelf, wired with "hardware cloth" on the outside edges, then black weed block paper and slate pieces.
I will fill with soil and plant shade plants like ferns and creeping jenny and maybe a few mini hostas.
Cheers

I won't bore folks with that!! I am planning to have it laid flat for a month or so, while the ferns etc, grow roots!

@gg5 came across this thread which has some great ideas for plantings for your crevice garden and some great
pictues of mountains and deserts too.

Course you have to get a marmot to sit on some of the slate to make it real natural.
Can you find it?

The thread "Wild Rock Gardens" in Rock Gardens forum

Greg, I will go to this and see if I can find more info/shots to share with you.
It is a special event at Tagawa Gardens in Centennial Colorado this Saturday.

I took the picture out as it is from their website.

It is a seminar on "Bringing the Rocky's Home - Rock Gardens and Alpine Plants

And had a great picture of a hypertufa container with slates and rocks.

sent it as a treemail shared it with Lynn too

I realized that I forgot I have to place soil in it and then a layer of chicken wire to hold the soil in - ooopsie!
Haven't done anything with it yet but I did almost forget that important step! Smiling Then I'll plant and leave it and slowly set it upright!
Marilyn @CDssister I love those ideas! Thank you, it is what I like in terms of plantings, things which bring in another dimension of character!
Hurray! I tip my hat to you.

Here's another-other hanging garden.

Soda bottles strung up horizontally on wires.

Bev, thanks for that peek at an herb garden wall that Gordon posted. The green bottles make it really nice, and wind can't make them tangle with each other.

(Edited to reflect the fact that it was Gordon's post, not his wall of bottles. Thanks for correcting me, Bev.)

The bottles are a clever idea. The free hanging ones must be in some sheltered area.
