tink3472,
Thanks, I always see the adds that state we only ship "full size plants"... and charge full size prices, now I see that shipping full size or extra large plants might not really be all that important. I guess though most people assume bigger is better, so in order to make the sales they have to stress the size of the plants.

Yes, a lot of people do think bigger is better, however, once they have been into daylilies for awhile they will soon realize that those BIG plants will eventually shrink down to normal size in their garden since they are most likely not feeding the plants the same and their growing season may not be the same.

Mike, I have quite a few from Wild's that my late mother planted over 20 years ago, and that I have inherited from her. I love most of them. Gotten rid of very few. In fact I have come up with a long list of daylilies that were once in my mother's collection that I'm looking to trade for this year. Maybe you have some you could trade with me. I will post my list soon.

I think when they arrive with sides sliced off one tends to worry. But usually if you got the crown they will still grow. However, I do think one fan is a bit mean and one small fan is exceptionally mean. All you have to do is accidentally stand on it, or a cockatoo strip it, and hello oblivion. Also waiting two years for flowering is quite painful and makes a supplier unattractive.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Mike, that looks great! Glad to hear they're doing so well.

I just posted a list of daylilies I'm looking for to do a trade. Here is the link:

When I realized I was hooked on Daylilys, I ordered from GW & Son. The next year they all bloomed, did not lose any of them. But, I have daylilys I did not order ( quite a few I don't like), and some of the ones I ordered where not there, others were labeled wrong! Angry

I didn't contact them because of 1. How can I prove to them that all the daylilys in my yard at the time were from them and no where else. 2. It seemed like a a lot of extra work to go around and list everything with pictures. I decided to cut my losses and not shop there anymore for Daylilies.

DancingGenes,
Welcome, I placed an order with Wilds.
I just got notification that my order would ship soon. I will label them all and keep up with them, take photos and post when they bloom if any are mislabeled. Heck, all the ones I ordered were cheap, the most expensive was $7.50 I think, so maybe some of them will be mislabeled and I will get nicer plants, although I did order all rust resistant plants, so I would at least hope they are all rust resistant.

I planted 38 Daylilies from G.H. Wild last July. I ordered a clearance collection of 30, however, several of the plants were divided prior to planting. At any rate, I will note (w/photos) how many bloom this year.

The last time I ordered from Wild's, and it's been a few years, everything I ordered was true to name. So maybe they've improved, or I was just lucky? However, I don't think they ship the same day they dig and may hold them in cold storage for awhile before they ship. This doesn't really hurt them, they'll still grow for you. But it does set them back. I've had some bloom the first year, but mostly they take a year or two to bloom in my climate. Also their shipping, though real reasonably priced is very slow. When I ordered last, they were using UPS ground, which was slow enough I thought they may be hiking the plants here. Needless to say, the plants look very dry and tired by the time they get here. Daylilies are tough though so they do survive. When they're selling plants for $2 or $3, all this might make it worth it. But anything more, I'd rather buy from a grower I know will send me fresh dug fans and ship them by the fastest means.

I was sitting at the computer for a lunch brake when I saw the postman headed to the door with a package. Yes, my order from Wild's has arrived. I immediately opened the package, OPPS! Quickly headed outside, the shredded paper was a total mess, I have always hated that stuff for packing material. I removed the packing list, and looked for the daylilies, saw a little sprig of green and felt a little relief, at least something was alive in there. Dug down through that mess of shredded paper trying not to scatter it everywhere, FEELING for daylilies, they were so small you couldn't really see them! Well, they were all there and they were still labeled, but the labels were attached in such a manner that I had to be very careful when handling them to put them in the little dish pan to soak them. The labels were loosely wrapped around the roots and were easy to slide off. So I quickly put some water in the pan, and stuck the little roots (can't really call them fans) so I guess you could call most of them "double roots" they may all be, but some are so small I don't think they would quality even as a "double root". The shredded paper was not damp, don't know if it ever was, the plants were very dry and the label had the cooler number they had been stored in on each plant, so obviously they were not fresh dug.
Disappointed..., heck no! I am eager to get them out of the tub and into the garden, I just know in a few months those things will be standing tall and proud.

Seedfork, that's how mine all looked but ALL of them grew fine. My main issue is them mislabeling, and giving me the wrong ones with the right ones. One example: Spider Man (didn't order) is labeled as Always Afternoon (did order). Make sure you take pics of them when they flower, with the labels that came with them.
Enjoy your new plants!

Too late, tossed the labels that came with them, they were falling off anyhow. I did make labels and put with them, I would love for one of mine to be 'Spider Man', that would be a great mistake.
Oh, I forgot to mention my free bonus plant, wouldn't you know with as few daylilies as I have, I would get one that is already growing in the garden, 'Crimson Pirate'. I think there were actually eight little "fans" or "rootlets" or what ever you would call them. 'Sunday Gloves' naturally only had one little 'fan'.

One other thing, I was notified that my order was coming UPS, I was given a UPS tracking number. The USPS actually delivered the package, took two days from the time they shipped to arrive at my door. I received a thank you for using UPS e-mail saying my package had been delivered, so I guess UPS finds it either cheaper or faster on some items to use the USPS.

That's very interesting Seedfork. I seem to get things here faster when the shipping is by USPS. USP and FedEx both seem to be slower unless I pay for express shipping.
