Some photos of my Oriental Trumpet seedlings follow.
The sdlgs I have the most interest in are photo 3 in the second row (pollen fertile), photo 2 and 3 in the 3rd row (pollen fertile...really happy about this one as I needed a nice pollen fertile pink). Photo 4 in the 3rd row is pollen sterile, and most likely will also be pod sterile. Photo 4 is a sibling of the lily in photo 2 and 3 in the same row.
I do not use embryo rescue for growing any of my OT crosses. I don't have the time or space. Lots of new OT cross seedlings in the ground this past fall, and another 70+- small pots of seed crosses started in the last 2 weeks.
I haven't been working with the OT crosses for as long as the asiatics - so what you see is most of the better OTs I have gotten in my seedlings.
Very nice Hank! Particularly the light pink and yellow tricolor. I have a few questions for you. When you say that a lily is not pollen fertile, is that because you know it to be triploid or you have not gotten a compatable pod with it? Also when you say you do not use embryo rescue, are you meaning that you just sow the seeds and whatever sprouts is good or are you using another technique?
Fantastic achievements! Now it will be interesting to see if any of those you mention will end up being fertile both ways. I especially like #3 in row two. Let's hope!!
Joe, It's just based on getting no seeds from plants that I would expect to get seeds from. All seeds are just sown into my normal potting mix and receive no special treatment.
Lorn, #1 lily in the 1st row and #1 in the 3rd row are fertile both ways.
#3 in row 2 is at least pollen fertile, has not been tested yet for pod fertility.
#3 in row 1 will probably be fertile both ways, as both parents are fertile both ways.
#s 3 and 4 in row 4 and #1 in row 5 will be difficult. They may produce very few seeds when used as the pod parent.
The balance of the seedlings have not been tested.
