I have two different plants I need Id for any suggestions would be appreciated.
The first one managed to live outside in 14 deg. temps. but I don't recall what it was called. It is a very common plant and I recognize it, just can't place a name to it.

This second one, I planted from seed, and my label says Red Hot Poker, but I thought that had more of a grass like foliage. I did notice the lower part of the stem is a different color than the upper part.

The first is a sedum.
Bottom looks like a helianthus or a tithonia.

The picture looks right, but I don't recall having any sedum on the deck. It was also suggested it could be a Kalanchoe, and I did have a couple of those on the deck.

It really does look like 'Autumn Joy' Sedum but if not,

Thanks for the answers !
Ok, I think the first one is going to be Autumn Joy sedum, my sister-in-law, gave me some of that at one time and it could have gotten mixed in with something else in that pot. Hurray!
No ideas on the second plant? Confused

I think Stone gave you a good guess on the second plant. It does look a lot like Tithonia rotundifolia to me. It also makes me wonder if someone got Tithonia 'Torch' mixed up with "Torch Lily" which is another common name for Kniphofia (Tritoma.)

Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia rotundifolia 'Torch')

Danita,
So glad you said that, I only saw the first part of Stone's post for some reason, did not even see that she suggested tithonia, I am going back and look again at my seed packets, I probably did not have my glasses on, I am going to use that excuse for both oversights.

Well, it was not my mistake after all, I guess the seed company got mixed up.

Did you happen to save back any of the seeds from that pack and not sow them? If so, then snap a pic of the seeds and post it. Tithonia and Kniphofia seeds look totally different. Those are definitely not Kniphofia seedlings!

Ok, I think I can say this is tithonia, Thanks stone and Danita
I think a lot of people are going to be surprised at how their Red Hot Pokers look.

Looks like Tithonia to me! The seeds in this photo are wet so they appear darker, but you can see the distinctive shape.

That is certainly not a Kniphofia seed, so Ferry-Morse is to blame for sure! Thumbs down
