I have this plant that i was told is
Cerinthe pupurea? Any ideas as to its correct species/var.?

I couldn't find anything for a plant named Cerinthe purpurea but how about this one?

Honeywort (Cerinthe major subsp. purpurascens)

That's correct. Honeywort is a more usual common name for Cerinthe.
