The 2 photos posted under Penstemon virgatus var. virgatus are actually Oenothera spp., probably Oenothera kunthiana.

Normally I confirm all photos , this one must have slipped by
It is from a group I took in Colorado and I am not familiar with the flora there


Saying all that I SHOULD have known because I grow both penstemon and primrose
