Surprise! I had already mentioned the height on a post about the plant.
Dahlia 'Peaches and Cream'

I saw it said "start indoors" but that's referring to propagation of seeds, not a reference to it as a houseplant. Most/many dahlia lovers do remove them from storage and allow them to begin to grow inside the home. Even bagged store bought tubers can be put in a sunny window. Open the bag but do not water until you spot growth. Even then you just give them a sip - don't drown them in water or they will rot.

Frank thanks for mentioning this! I'm going to look it up right now!

This was the hardest thing ever for me to get used to...no initial watering... Blinking I thought surely I'd fail...but it's true.

If you don't want to stake, try the Hypnotica® series. They're available at garden centers, and the plants are very full, short and will bloom heavily throughout the season without much fuss.

This picture was taken at the tail-end of our gardening season last year...the plants shown are the biggest they'll ever be. Smiling

Lovely! I also like the small ones sold in nurseries here the first week of May and they're already in bloom so there's no guessing as to the colors.

pirl said:The database is just a few years old and people entering information can be in error just as packaging details can be wrong. I can't imagine those in charge verifying each detail of each of the more than 600,000 plants so it's left to us to report mistakes.

I'll go to Peaches 'n Cream and edit the height by notifying the Administrators of the error.

Bone meal is ideal. They aren't big feeders.

No DG has been around for a long time, I see post going back to 2006. I think. But I don't like notifying them. LOL.

Sorry for the confusion - probably my fault. I was speaking of the ATP plant database, not DG's, which is around 13 years old.

The more information we can each enter on any plant, based on our own experience, the better.

Yes, I love to read about personal experiences. Most people do not realize how much their comments help us.

I started with 15 varieties a few years ago. Kelvin Floodlight (Large yellow dinner plate dahlia) is and was by far the easiest to grow for me. Each individual tuber will multiply into 10 every year if you take good care of it. The progeny from the one clump I started with has now multiplied to over a bushel. The flowers are huge and really draw rave reviews from anyone who likes cut flowers.

A friend is sending me Kelvin Floodlight this spring. Can't wait to see how lovely it is in person.

Bodacious is downstairs, under lights, and there are several leaves and more eyes so I should have a few of them, which is good since they haven't been big producers for me, but with three of them it should look like one giant blooming machine.
