Kelli,

Here's the general database entry for Ice Plant (Delosperma) I just submitted some information for the plant but it might be awhile before it shows up. There's currently one photo of the plant so I hope you will consider uploading both of your lovely photo's!

You're thread title says Ice Plant and that is exactly what it is? Hilarious!

Carpobrotus edulis, and common in California and Florida! Smiling

Although I can find credible reference and photos of a pale pink form of the normally yellow Carpobrotus edulis, I haven't found any photos or evidence of stamens, anthers, pollen or stigma that is not yellow. I too, am guessing it is not a Delosperma (but something related), but am wondering if it is Carpobrotus edulis, since all of the sexual parts (the center of the flower) are magenta. Confused

The leaves are much more narrow than they are for Carpobrotus edulis and are round in cross section and the whole plant is a lot less coarse. I am very familiar with C. edulis and C. chilensis. This is not either of those.

Kelly, Can you give a photo with a ruler or coin to give some perspective?

It isn't blooming now (picture was taken last year) but I can get a picture of the plant with a ruler tomorrow. Flower is about 2 inches in diameter. Center is about 1/3 of an inch in diameter.

maybe the leaves are narrower because of lighting.

*Blush* I should have stated that Delosperma was a guess on my part. The foliage and bloom looked like Delosperma to me but I am really bad at comparing photo's. It could be a variety of Carpobrotus or Drosanthemum or Lampranthus or .....

There are a few plants with the common name of "Ice Plant" and I'm really bad at comparing photo's. Green Grin!

Here are some photos with a ruler. (It is a much daintier plant than Carpobrotus and the flowers are smaller. It gets nearly all day full sun. I've had the plant for years and this is about as big as seems to want to get.)

Here is a Carpobrotus edulis. The leaves are distinctly triangular in cross section and the center of the flower is larger than on my plant. I know these well. They are all over the place on the beach.

In Kelli's first picture and over to the far left in one particular flower a nice amount of yellow is present. Parusing around and looking at other flowers it appears the same. In the ground, and in full Sun I can imagine that the leaves would be the typical fatties and longer.

Many succulents in hanging baskets and depending on nutrients available and light, can appear daintier and less robust then others in perfect conditions. Some will appear to be an entirely different plant. Ever seen a stringy long Burro's Tail in slightly lower light?

Your plant is not stringy Kelli. Smiling It's beautiful. Try a piece in the ground in a hot Sunny area this year and experiment! I tip my hat to you.
Hottentot Fig (Carpobrotus edulis) is still what I believe this plant is.

I've searched 'till I'm cross-eyed and the closest I've found is Delosperma

David, the plant came from the hot, sunny yard and it looked the same as it does in the pot. I think it is a delosperma. Our neighbor down the street has carpobrotus in the same situation and it definitely looks like carpobrotus.

And yellow in the middle too. It's good you have found the right answer in your mind. I always like knowing the true names of my plants too. Thumbs up
