OK. This was probably discussed but I have missed it-
What is the potting mix so I can make it?
I use a local nursery potting mix, which has grit added, but no moisture gel/crystal/ whatever. I would never use the mircale gro moisture cntrol with these- they'd rot. I use a 4 in square pot all reused from last year or before, but washed & then rinsed with water with bleach.
I usually add vermiculite. What else?

Sounds like your on the right track oldrose with the mix you have. Sounds like it drains fast. And you are right, sure don't want anything with the moisture gel/crystals.

Everyone has their own favorite mix for semsp. The important thing is that it won't compact and become hard and that it drains well.

Can't wait to see photos of your semps all planted up when you get them. Thumbs up

Hi, new here and from what I'm reading, I'm less than new with "Hen & Chicks" (this is the only name I've ever heard any of these beauties called.) I love everyone I've seen and would absolutely love having a special garden full. I know squat about them but have them planted in several locations in my flowers. Please tell me the best place to purchase, best soil, and location for planting. I am totally hooked on something I know nothing about.
Thank you
Faye

Wow! can't get enough. lol I think these Semps are like oxygen, once you have it, can't do without it.
Wish I had more patience and shopped before ordering, could have saved .75 each on most of my ordered plugs.
Oh well, live & learn. Now back to another link. Looking for the right soil. Thank you Lynn

You make me smile Faye, I love your enthusiasm. Just want to let you know many collectors do plant trades. It is a way of getting plants for the cost of postage. Great way to increase your collection. : )

If you don't have semps to trade, many are willing to trade for other garden plants you may have.
