I shoveled the snow off of my raised mounds so that the soil can start warming up with this strong spring sunshine. Can I hope to plant my peas by tax day or before? My luck they will probably get covered with 4'' of snow like they did two years ago. I can only hope...springs eternal!

That's a good thing for crops or plants that can tolerate freezing temps when they grow, like lettuce, radishes and peas. But if perennials grow there.... not so good. You would be encouraging them to emerge before they should, and make them vulnerable to late frosts.

Hurray! I got to play outside today, raked up lots of broken small branches and twigs from the willow tree, it is very messy, then I got 2 of the crabapple trees pruned, one more to go, that is my most hated chore. Hurray!

Thursday it finally was a half decent day, so I got the rest of the pruning done on the trees, glad that's done, it is my least favorite spring garden chore.

Today I potted up a couple of cheap daylilies from Costco, I have had pretty good success with the plants from there, even though they are probably cell culture, there were 2 cultivars, 'Russian Ragtime', and Ageless Beauty, 2 fans of each. Then I started a bunch of Nemesia seeds, I love those, they bloom all season and have a lovely fragrance.

We are still shovelling snow here.
But I have lots of good seedlings on the go in the house.
Another 8 weeks before they can go outside.

Thankfully most of the snow is gone in my yard, and I hope it stays gone. Hilarious! At least 8 weeks for my seedlings too, happy I have a good size grow table. nodding

At least we seem to be through with the snow here (fingers crossed!), but it's still close to freezing at night and cold and rainy. Got quite a few seedlings in the greenhouse, but I've been really distracted with a sick dog (he seems to be ok now) and trying to get stuff organized for a room addition. Poor main garden is going to be somewhat neglected this year, I fear.

Still have a lot of snow here and 5-8 inches expected tomorrow, but at least we've had some melting last week. I've got lots of babies and other things growing in my plant room but I'm afraid they're gonna have a long wait to get outside.

One pair of Canada geese has arrived! They must be returnees, because they made a bee-line for the area where we scatter corn for the turkeys. We're now getting days above freezing, but it's still frosty at night and the snow is at least a foot deep over much of the garden. The pond is still frozen solid except for a small patch of open water where the stream enters it. That's enough to keep the geese happy, and they are splashing around, having a good wash. They must not feel the cold like we do. Can you imagine immersing yourself in snow-melt?

Ok. Walmart has started to put up the fenced garden centre and bags of soil are inside. It won't be open for a little while yet but it is a sign of spring. Temps have risen to 9C today too. Woo hoo

Hurray! Weather is gorgeous here today, sunny and 8c/48f degrees. almost no wind. I just came in for lunch, I have been outside since around 10am cleaning up a very long bed at the back of the house, it gets morning sun so it is lovely out there. Hurray!

I drove into Spokane today (groan!) and it was warm enough that I had to turn on the air conditioning in my car on the trip back! And the Home Depot there has plants all over the place. Trying to suck us into buying things too early so we'll have to replace them later! Hilarious!

Gee, and I thought I had a bare-bones truck (it doesn't have intermittent windshield wipers). But at least the windows open.....
