I picked up a bag with 4 Clematis (2 Florida Sieboldii and 2 Ramona) for $11.99. The plants are small but appear healthy. They also have bags of 6 Astilbe for the same price. Might be a good time to take a peek at what your local Costco has now. Smiling

Great to know.

Our Costco is brand new and will open in mid April. I'll be there seeing if they have any clematises.

As long as the plants are healthy and growing , that's all that matters. In time they all do grow.

woofie, please let us know if you got the correct plants when they bloom. I've been burned, buying plants there in the past. What I ended up with was okay, and very healthy, but not the correct plants.

I will do that. Heh, I did notice that the Astilbe are definitely mis-marked. Country and Western were marked as "white" and Rock and Roll is labeled as "pink." Oops!

Hilarious! I got a package that had clematis and daylilies in it. Can't remember the name of the clematis, but it was supposed to be white. Well, it was red, and was much prettier than the white one, but it wasn't even close to the correct plant. The daylilies were supposed to be pink, and they were also red! I eventually figured out the name of the daylily, and still have it, but it wasn't even close to what it was supposed to be. Thinking that this was just a one time oops, I bought another one of those boxes, this time with lilies, and had the same problem. I really didn't care about the names, but would have preferred the correct colors. No such luck!

Oh dear. I do hope the clematis are the right ones! I guess time will tell. Smiling

This happen 5 or 6 years ago, so maybe they have fixed things since then. I sure hope you get the correct plants! It will give me courage to buy from there again!

I wonder what their return policy is for plants that weren't as advertised? I know we were able to return a bag of moldy tulip bulbs with no hassles, but do you need to dig up the wrong plant and carry it back in? Hilarious!

I asked them about that, and they wanted the plants back. I even asked if I could just bring them some pictures, and they said no. The daylilies didn't bloom until the following year, and by the time the clematis bloomed, it would have been a nightmare to unravel from the trellis it was on. I guess I could have chopped it off, but I was happy with the plants, so I decided to keep them. They really are good about taking stuff back, and if I didn't like what I ended up with, I'd do just that. I've got my fingers crossed that your plants will be correct!

Well, all my purchases are in pots right now, so if I needed to, I could drag them back to the store if they don't grow, at any rate.

Playing with fire here: I bought another baggie with peonies in it. Heh, they're in pots, too. Hilarious!

I am so tempted right now to buy a couple of the peonies that they have for sale! They are gorgeous, at least on the outside of the box!

I bought some singles from Costco a few years ago and they did really well. They multiplied into large clumps in a few years. Then a few years later, I bought another bag that was supposed to have 2 buckeye Belle, and 2 festiva Maxima, but only had 1 buckeye Belle in it. I was going to complain, but was too lazy.

Dianne, were they the correct plants when they bloomed? I'd be more concerned about that, I think.

I'm going to Costco tomorrow, and I'm going to do my best to walk right past those plants!

The plants were the right variety. I have never had any mis-labelled plants from Costco.

I can't walk past without buying anything - I bought a bag of camassia, a bag of alliums, and a bag of eremurus this past fall/winter. The camassia and alliums are all up - about 3-4 inches tall. The eremurus has not broken ground yet. This is my second year trying to grow that - nothing came up the first time.

I love camassia, but didn't see it for sale here. Maybe it doesn't grow well where I live. Seems like they had the basics, and nothing too fancy. I really want some of the lilies that they have right now, so I may cave in and get them.

woofie, do the deer bother your Astilbe? The only place I have here for them is outside the fence, where the deer are. If I plant them inside the fence, the dogs will trample them. That is the only area that I have any good shade. Hopefully we can get some more trees planted this year. I need more shade, because I need some Astilbe!

Heh, deer can't get to my astilbe unless they figure out how to open up the greenhouse. These are my first ones.
