How are the summer veggies coming people?
I've got a zucc, a couple crooknecks, a elephant garlic, and lots of early girl tomatoes.

All I have is jealousy... lookin' really good, Ray!

Actually, that's not strictly true. I've picked a few Beaverlodge Plum tomatoes that are ripening on my counter, safely away from the birds, and I've been snacking on the malabar greens from Kelly. My cukes are blooming like fools, and there's both M & F blossoms on the watermelon, and the corn's starting to tassel, but I'm just waiting, waiting, waiting...

This really surprised me. While looking for scallop and crookneck squash I thought this was one of the avocado skins I throw out in the garden.
I took a second look because something wasn't right about it. LOL
Looks like I've got some natural bug control going on.

Better than no friends at all - lol...

Harvesting several types of squash (want some?), eggplant, pole and bush beans, peppers out the wazoo, Armenian cukes, Malabar spinach and tomatoes.

Growing and fruiting - strawberry popcorn (since I can't seem to grow regular corn to save my life), okra (1st time), cantaloupe, melons, watermelon, pumpkins, basil (few kinds), various herbs, sweet potatoes. I know I'm forgetting something...

Jill, did those peppers from the swap make it? I need to look up again the possible varieties in that mix. One of mine is yellow and another is orange...

They did make it, but I can't remember if they've set any peppers or not. Gotta go check tomorrow, I'll let you know!

Here is part of today's harvest...

...eggplant, zucchini, armenian cukes, lots of 'maters, several peppers and my first ever okra! I'm gonna fry it up and see if I even like it - lol.

Nice harvest, Kelly

What Jayne said Kelly. You have okra already!!! When did you plant? Mine are just sprouts, a long way from growing any fruit.

I'm coming over for dinner tonight!

I developed a new love of eggplant while in Italy--never really liked it before then. I think what they did was something like this:

Slice, sprinkle with salt and let drain for a bit. Coat with olive oil and maybe some salt, pepper, garlic? Grill or otherwise cook, maybe flat on a skillet or something? Anyhow, it was wonderful, and I am now newly energized to get some to grow! (gotta go start some seeds for fall, since my fab friend Kelly says it's a great fall crop... ☺)

Thanks girls! McP, I can't remember when I planted the Okra. I wrote it on the garden plan but didn't put the date. I would guess late April?

Come on over Jill... I just made some killer pasta sauce with goodies from the garden - 'maters, peppers, onions, zukes, eggplant, squash, oregano and basil... Had to use store garlic cuz I didn't plant any last fall and mushrooms since I don't grow my own... Hmmmmmmmm. May have to look into that!

I currently have eggplant coming out my ears! I'll use the Black Beauty for parmesan. I used the long purple oriental ones in the sauce.

Jill,

I do grilled eggplant fairly often this time of the year and I make it just like uyou said. Slice eggplant about 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle with salt and let it sit about 30 minutes ( this draws out some bitterness). Pat dry with a paper towel and then brush with olive oil. Season with a little more salt, pepper, garlic powder and a pinch of oregano. Put on a hot grill and rotate 90 degrees after about 2 minutes to get cross hatched grill marks. Wait another minute and flip to the other side and repeat. Depending on the heat it may not take as long on the second side.

Thanks for providing some specifics, Dan! Gonna have to grill me some eggplant ASAP! Add a little chianti and I'm all set!

Beautiful Veggies, everyone. It takes a lot of study, hard work to bring in harvests like you all have. Kudos! I had a pretty good haul from my two Better Boy tomatoes. Very tasty and easy. Only one of about 30 had that bottom rot problem. I watered on a schedule and all was good. I had lots of lettuce for about 3 months! Herbs were fine. I'll try more in the Autumn.
